Note: This entry assumes some knowledge of the Elder Scrolls world. For a good primer, check out A Pocket Guide of the Empire, Third Edition.
I’ve always wanted to start a band, despite having little interest in making music. I just want to NAME the band. Narrowing down the near-infinite possibilities to a single combinations of words (or just sounds) just has to be character building.
Which is pretty much how I feel about The Elder Scrolls VI. I don’t want to make it. If Bethesda wants to really push the open-world RPG forward, rather than just coasting off of the success of Skyrim, then they have a lot of difficult work ahead of them. I don’t envy them that challenge. Yet even if – as I suspect – they do just tweak and further simplify the same formula they’ve been using since Morrowind, they’ll still have one decision that requires a lot of creative thought, and I’d love to be a fly on the wall when they’re trying to hammer out this singular detail. I speak, of course, of the setting.
To say that the setting is important to an Elder Scrolls game would be both understated and blindly obvious: it’s the sole titular identifier for each game. While the title of Arena reflected the series’ origins as a gladiatorial combat game (before design changes that made it much more like Wizardry, the series that was the team’s chief inspiration), Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Skyrim are named after the Imperial province l in which they take place, and while Oblivion is in Cyrodiil, it is the titular plane that is most central to its plot. Setting makes or breaks these games; I’d argue that Oblivion‘s focus on plot over developing an interesting central setting is one of the key reasons it had a considerably weaker narrative than its predecessor. Bethesda seemed to realize this, and made the geography and culture of Skyrim the central focus of the latest series incarnation.
So when Bethesda starts thinking about Elder Scrolls VI – as they already surely are – one of the first, and most important, decisions that needs to be made is where it will take place. I’ve put some thought into this, and have found that one potential location stands head and shoulders above the rest.
It’s a process of elimination. First, a couple of assumptions:
1. It will take place in a single, contiguous location…
Arena took place over all of Tamriel, because – like pretty much every other game of the time – the world was not modeled in any particular detail. But Daggerfall zoomed in the focus to High Rock and some of Hammerfell, and Morrowind zoomed in even farther to a single large island in its province. It allowed Bethesda, for the first time, to model their world in detail. No more cookie-cutter towns and randomly generated NPCs. Everything was hand-crafted, everything was distinct. And it was a much better game because of it. I wondered, when playing Skyrim, why Bethesda had this massive war take place before the game even started. Why not have Elder Scrolls V take place during the great war? Because it would require you to move all over Tamriel, that’s why. The relatively narrow focus works, and for Bethesda to return to a “galavant around the world” structure would take away their greatest strength.
2. …that hasn’t been done before.
Bethesda has never done the same location twice, and I see no reason for them to start now. Skyrim and Cyrodiil have been thoroughly covered. They could do the mainland of Morrowind, but the culture of the dark elves was laid out with such detail in Morrowind that the dev team would have a lot less creative leeway, not to mention the fact that their current stable of writers probably aren’t good enough to capture the nuance of that setting. Daggerfall is old enough that they could “re-do” High Rock or Hammerfell, but High Rock is the most generic setting in Elder Scrolls (it’s basically Britain) and there have been more games in Hammerfell than any other province (as there was a spin-off adventure game, Redguard, taking place there.)
It’s worth noting that this assumption eliminates ALL the human-majority provinces. I think Bethesda intentionally pulled back from the alien culture of Morrowind to appeal to a wider audience, giving them provinces that – while featuring elves and the “weird” beast races – were dominated by easy-to-understand humans straight out of history (Imperials are Romans, Nords are Nords, etc.) No more. Either Bethesda has to water down the fantasy societies they’ve spent so many years building up (i.e. be total dicks) or do something a little strange.
Here’s my picks, in increasing order of General Sensibleness:
6. Orsinium
Orsinium is a bad choice because, uh, it doesn’t really exist. The ancestral home of the orcs was just beginning to be rebuilt, but was sacked by Hammerfall and High Rock in the early fourth era. No info is available on it for the current place in the timeline, so Bethesda would have a lot of creative freedom…but they’d have to do High Rock/Hammerfell again (it’s too small to be its own thing) and I just don’t see Bethesda making an Orc-centric game.
5. Summerset Isle
The home of the Aldmeri Dominion, and that’s a problem. While the Empire was established as a complex, morally ambiguous entity, the Dominion (as portrayed in Skyrim) is just a bunch of racist assholes. They’re also mono-cultural, so setting it here would mean Elves Only. Lame.
4. Black Marsh
I personally think Black Marsh would be an interesting setting, but it has no mass appeal. As its name implies, it is a giant marsh populated almost exclusively by Argonians. Unlike Vvardenfel, with its ample natural resources and its curious status as an Imperial protectorate, Bethesda would have trouble coming up with a good reason to have a representative sample of all the races in such an inhospitable environment. And the Argonians are probably the most alien of the races, so that wouldn’t help win over anyone outside the hardcore fans.
3. Valenwood
The problem with Valenwood is mostly geographical. It is, as far as we know, a big collection of densely-wooded forests and jungles, with maybe the occasional patch of rolling hills. I just don’t think it offers the geographical diversity that Bethesda wants from their games. There is also the problem that it’s a willing part of the Aldmeri Domion, so it’d be almost as monocultural as Summerset.
2. Akavir
There are a number of known landmasses outside of Tamriel, but most can be dismissed out of hand. Yokunda is destroyed. Aldmeris is lost. Atmora is even colder than Skyrim. This leaves Akavir, the most developed of the Foreign Lands.
This entry at UESP provides what little info we have about Akavir. It has an East Asian flavor, with the Thousand Monkey Isles and Tiger-Dragons (a nation of “cats that have tried to become dragons” ruled by the sole cat who has succeeded. Yeah.) Bethesda could come up with some reason why a bunch of Tamriel people went over there (fleeing the Aldmeri Dominion?), and have a pretty interesting place.
But I think it’s just too weird. They could retcon stuff, tone it down, but they’d be leaving so much of their built-up lore behind in favor of creating a new continent from scratch. And this IS a whole continent, not the size of a province. I wouldn’t put it past Bethesda to give this a shot, but it would be difficult.
1. Elsweyr
Which leaves us with our final choice: Elsweyr. It has a fair amount of geographic variety; though much of it is desert, it also boasts jungles near Valenwood to the west and a generous coastline along the eastern side. The Khajiit have a rich culture, but are more (for lack of a better word) personable than Argonians, and there are numerous sub-races to add variety to the mix. There are a lot of interesting cultural quirks that could be explored, including the tension with Valenwood; the drug trade; the complex politics of the many small states and their ruler, the Mane; the moon-focused religion; and the trademark sense of humor. It may, in fact, be TOO complex for Bethesda’s current team, which tries to make more straightforward narratives. Wheras Morrowind had numerous factions with no “good guys,” Oblivion has a straightforward good-vs-evil plot, and Skyrim features a binary “choose a side” conflict that is only somewhat more nuanced. So it’s a good thing that Elsweyr no longer exists as a legal entity, being a protectorate of the Aldmeri Dominion. Unlike Valenwood, it doesn’t seem like an overwhelming majority of the natives are on board with this. Setting The Elder Scrolls VI in Elsweyr would allow Bethesda to create a binary tension (Elsweyr as it has traditionally existed vs. The Aldmeri Dominion). Bethesda would have to make the Dominion much more complex than its current state to actually make this interesting; but frankly they need to do that anyway, and this would be an excellent platform for it, the sole location where the dominion is neither hated enemy nor beloved ruler.
Perhaps most importantly, Elsweyr would *allow* Bethesda to coast. They could reuse the same mechanics from Skyrim and most people wouldn’t care because there was a fresh new world to play in. I’m not saying Bethesda should do this, but it certainly makes Elsweyr a more attractive candidate for them.
Finally: Elsweyr is just an awesome name. Instead of hearing people ramble on about Skyrim this and Skyrim that, you’d end up with the following exchange:
“So, John, haven’t seen you at the bar lately. Where have you been spending all of your time?
“Elsweyr.”
We’ve discussed this a lot and I think ultimately I agree with you, but I wouldn’t dismiss Valenwood of even Summerset Isle out of hand. True, they are monocultural now, but Bethesda could do what it did in Skyrim and jump forward another 200 years. The White-Gold Concordant could be broken and war between the empire and the dominion could break out again. Even 50 or 100 years of war could change a lot and then empire might take over these locations, bringing with them all the Elder Scrolls races and cultures we know and love.
This is true, but I really hope Bethesda DOESN’T do another huge temporal leap; there’s a point at which it’s just kind of lazy, because they don’t have to stick to a consistent mythos/setting, don’t have to worry about any characters that aren’t immortal (or elves), etc. I still have very mixed feelings about it for Skyrim.
And Valenwood would still be too monogeographical even if it had proper representation. Almost the entire thing is a forest.
Valenwood might be too monogeographical, but Valenwood and Elsweyr are much smaller than Skyrim and Cyrodiil, so they could do both. This would allow for a large area as well as for border disuputes and the such and they can fix each other’s problems. Also according to the Khajiits’ lore the Khajiits and Bosmer have the same ancestors, but they were both altered. This would mean it would make sense to have them together.
We also have to look for what the main story line will be and it won’t be fighting the Dominion. The main story always has to do with the province’s lore, so it could be something to do with Khajiits’ moons disappearing and reappearing.
I think that if it is set in elswyr, then it shoud be focused more on stealthy characters.People could pickpocket YOU for a change. When I said a stealthy focus, I mean that skyrim and obivion are combat focused in terms of races and the setting and cuture. The Kajiit have always been sneaky NINJAS.
If those sneaky ninja CUM by me I kill them
I would like to say that I think Orsinium would be my favorable land space and you say that it’s ruled out because it was sacked. I see this as a quest line like taking out a bunch of Redguard camps to let the place be rebuilt. Also there is the matter of the “main” religion of Orsinium. You could help the Orcs that still worship Malacath get rid of the current leader, Gortwog. Alternatively you could help Gortwog get rid of the Orcs that don’t support him and help the land get provincial status. Also the people at Bethesda are just plain brilliant. They could probably pull anything off.
When I went in Gamestop in November the clerk, face literally buried in his little pack-in Skyrim map, was muttering to himself that he hoped the next one takes place on the Sea of Ghosts. Which would be interesting for about two hours.
VI will be Elsweyr, maybe with a section of Black Marsh, although I wonder how it will be received. I hear the next WOW expansion has Blizzard really blowing their Orientalism nut; maybe western designers will eventually start re-thinking their geo-cultural signifiers. Those Khajits are cool but they’re sort of predictable in their dusky-exotic, “I come from foreign lands and I speak like thisssss” thing.
Well, the good thing is that Bethesda always has the opportunity to expand on a given race/culture when they’ve never explored it before. The Nords in previous Elder Scrolls games have basically no culture, but they at least give them something with Skyrim. Presumably Khajiit could be similar expanded, though ideally in a less stereotypical fashion. But as noted, their political culture is already pretty distinct, and it will be interesting to see them from the inside, since most of what we know about Khajiit ARE stereotypes (they are all thieves, etc.)
Also, yeah, I don’t know what that Gamespot clerk was thinking. I mean, an island chain could be okay ala Wind Waker, though even that would be risky. But just the ocean? Not much of an exploration game. “I found more water!”
I really like all the shipwrecksin skyrim so that is not such a bad idea for a dlc.
It’s Kahjiit.
I’d like to see Elsweyr or the Black Marshes. Though the cultures of both the Argonians and the Kajiit have barely been touched in the games themselves the two (somewhat mediocre) books that were released between Oblivion and Skyrim (Which also had larger focus on events such as High Fain falling in to Vivec and the early days of the great war between the Aldmeri Dominion and the Empire) did expand upon them a bit.
For example it revealed that how humanoid a Khajiit is depends on when it is born, or how humanoid the Argonians are depended on how much Hist sap they drink as infants. It also went into how connected the Argonians are to the Hist, and some Argonian groups such as the An-Xillel (which are the big anti-empire group in the Black marshes and were the only thing that stood between Dagon and the Marshes during the Oblivion Crisis).
I do want to read the books, though I’ve heard of their mediocrity. There’s a great book in Skyrim (imported from Oblivion, I believe) called Ahzirr Trajijazaeri, which has such a powerful Khajiit voice and a fair bit of nuance – shows that SOMEONE at Bethesda could pull this off. Sadly, it seems like the people who they assign to write the in-game books are generally much better writers (and much more imaginative) than the people who write the quests.
I would LOVE to play a game in Black Marsh, but I just don’t think Bethesda has the stones to go that route.
Oh, and as for the sea of ghosts thing, that could be a good area to go for a portion of the game, perhaps as DLC? But no, a The Elder Scrolls VI: Sea of Ghosts wouldn’t work out well (I like the title, though).
No, big thing I’m hoping for is for Skyrim DLC to take us back to Morrowind, I wanna raid some Kwama mines again…kill some more Cliff Racers and Nix-Hounds. See what’s left of Vvardenfell after The Red Year.
Please! Please, Bethesda! We have to go back!
But there would be so many seamen on the sea of ghosts 😉
elsweyr and valenwood in one game, on their own they are too small. together they could have some great diversity.
also morrowind wasn’t the entire province revisiting morrowind 200+years after the events in morrowind would be nice.
also here’s something you have to remmember, the vast majority of TES fan’s started with oblivion/skyrim, also many uber fanboys say how morrowind was the best, so going back to morrowind would be fine.
I think it would be viable to return to Morrowind; but I think the problem is that they’ve set their own bar too high. They set up a really complex culture and interplay of factions in the previous game, and while these have no doubt changed, it would be a big letdown if you want back and there were just a couple of Big Powers duking it out (Dunmer vs. Argonians, maybe). To put it another way: I’d love to see how it’s changed in 200+ years, but I honestly think it will have changed for the worse, and once the novelty wore off it wouldn’t be that interesting.
I wouldn’t mind an island chain! Elder Scrolls has needed sea travel for awhile. Fishing on vessels, included.
I’d be all for Valenwood, or Black Marsh, or even the Khajit homeland, though really Summerset Isle would be interesting, as it’s so isolated. Sea of Ghosts? Peh. Maybe an exclusive dungeon crawl, or branch-off from the series with more linear focused design.
linear focused design?? are you crazy??? that would destroy what these games are all about
Just thought I should bring this up. It has changed to The Elder Scrolls 6 since though.
http://gamingnews-daily.com/2011/12/24/rumor-is-there-a-new-elder-scrolls-on-the-way/
Interesting. Too bad, to – I’d love to see another spin-off game in another genre, like Redguard. The lore is rich enough that it could support it.
what about both valenwood and Elsweyr since both are cyrodiil’s size and bethesda would go for it
“ethesda has never done the same location twice”
Elder Scrolls Arena says hi.
Haven’t read the article yet, but going by the headline and title from N4G.com, I have been waiting for the whole planet to be my playground. Hopefully Bethesda can achieve this massive goal in the near future. Sailing the seas windwaker style, fighting pirates, traversing deserts, jungles and oceans would be a very fun experience, and maybe even an anonymous online feature like the upcoming “Journey” game.
That would indeed be awesome, but I’m not sure we’re going to get there anytime soon. The amount of development resources they need just to make a detailed area the size of Skyrim is insane; doing the whole continent won’t be possible until you develop some sort of quasi-AI developers to fill in geography and stuff.
Oh and i like the fast forwarding in time idea, why not even add a new race, aliens, subterranean race, ocean race, space exploration… Bethesda has done future wasteland with fallout, medieval times with elderscrolls, i wonder if they could do space cowboy, wild west space exploration like game.
For space western, check out Starhawk, it’s not an rpg, and it’s PS3 exclusive, but it is a spiritual successor to one of the diverse modern shooters, Warhawk.
The Elder Scrolls VI: Equestria
^This.
There is nothing I would like more than blasting pegasus ponies out of the sky and hacking horns off with a war axe, I can see this working out nicely.
They could make you a spy for (or maybe for elves who do not agree with the Aldemeris) who has to travel to Summerset Isle, uncover plots etc, but as you progress you can choose whether you actually want to spy for someone or just join up the Aldemeris etc..
That could actually be pretty cool, as long as they fleshed out the Aldmeri Dominion and made them less overtly evil. Or better yet, have someone OTHER than the Thalmor take control, and then have them sort of inheriting this bad legacy.
Personally believe they should make it take place in Akavir; there are some hints that point to a possible invasion by the Tiger-Dragon, so it can make him a viable villain for the next entry where ever it may take place.
I haven’t gotten far enough in Skryim to see these (side questing like there is no tomorrow) but I would definitely play an Akavir game.
Really, as long as they don’t just redo High Rock or whatever, I’m game.
i totally agree cause of the time jumps it could be set at anytime in the future or the past you could be like one of the last surviving humans that wasnt “eaten” by the Tsaesciand you can join up with the different races and if you join the different races you can go back and invade tamreil with that race in say and elder scrolls VII and mean this would be lengendary.
[…] The Elder Scrolls VI: [Insert Location Here] (Augmented Vision) […]
I think they should go BACK in time for the next one. They could go back and expand to do the whole of Tamriel again, but develop the story of the Dwemer and explore the events around their disappearance. The next XBOX console will be out next year and technology has advanced enough now that it can handle a much bigger game I think.
personally i don’t care where they have the next game take place… either way it’s going to be amazing.
Go to Hammerfell with people from across the sea invading. That would be epic.
What about a game with Summerset Isles, Valenwood and Elsweyr. As individual regions they’re too small really to be the basis of a whole game. But all three together in one game could work. That would give players three very distinct regions to explore. On top of that, the sea between Valenwood and Summerset Isles would provide Bethesda with an opportunity to make some maritime based missions for the game.
For some reason, it never occurred to me that they could combine regions when I was writing this. Your suggestions is awesome, and it would truly be fantastic, but I fear it might be a little bit more than is feasible. Elsweyr & Valenwood alone is bigger than Skyrim; including Summerset and the surrounding waters would make for a gameworld that was both larger and much more varied than Cyrodiil. Even if they could pull it off from an art assets standpoint, I’d fear the narrative would suffer; we might end up with only “surface” impressions of the various cultures involves instead of an in-depth exploration, like we got in Morrowind. Though, frankly, Bethesda probably isn’t going to do that either way.
How about they do ALL of Tamriel!?!?! That would be amazing!! Also, I’d love to explore the worlds that have already been done. They’d be new and filled with nostalgia! They should also have more changes in history based upon the previous Hero’s exploits. I mean, it was nice and all to get that book in Skyrim, but still. In oblivion my guy (and probably yours too) was the head of ALL the guilds and whatnot. And finally…MMORPG? Take down WoW in an instant!!
How about no?
That would be cool but would never work
certainly like your web-site but you have to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling issues and I to find it very troublesome to inform the truth on the other hand I’ll definitely come again again.
You’re right, of course – right now the site is definitely in “beta.” Trying to get a better copy-editing process – there’s no replacement for having someone else look over your work, which is what happens in any professional setting, but here it’s just me struggling to spot my own typos.
Glad you like it, though. There will be a redesign coming in a bit, and then it will really kick off 🙂
I find your lines of reasoning nearly flawless. I’ve found myself wondering where Elder Scrolls VI would take place and concluded that Elsweyr is ever so slightly more likely than any other.
Interesting to find other folks thinking the same way.
Likewise! But as much as it makes sense to me, I wouldn’t actually bet any real money on Elsweyr – at the end of the day, Bethesda will do whatever the hell they want, even if they have to rejiggle the narrative of their world to do so. And I still fear that they might avoid Elsweyr for commercial reasons (i.e. “Khajiit are too weird for Joe Gamer”).
I think it would be great if they did elswery. the khajit have an interesting and diverse culture as far as i can tell and i dont think it would be too weird. if anything bethesda needs a more interesting topic than the boring nords
I agree, and think they should do it in Elsweyr, but, as it is small, they should include Valenwood, and maybe Summerset Isle. They could have a war between the Kajiit, inhabiting Elsweyr, and the elves, inhabiting Valenwood and Summerset Isle. Maybe the player woould get to choose sides, like in Skyrim. Also, Summerset Isle coud be an expansion pack.
I think the could do Valenwood, but maybe add a huge cave network. With huge underground caverns. Since Valenwood is jungle they could do many amazon style caves and allow for hours to be spent by the player balancing on branches while jumping from tree to tree. Or they could do the oppisite of what they have done and go back in time to tell the story of the nords going to Skyrim, fighting the dragons, then it will allow for the next game as they can make it take place when the protohumans were freeing the other protohuman races from their inslavement by the alyieds. After this they could jump forward in time again. With the realease of these two games 10-15 years would have went by(Realtime) and the tecnology for game design would have advanced greatly. With improved graphics with 10-15 years(15-20 if you count the time between the realease of Skyrim and the next game) added to the mix and with new fans added to the series due to the two games they would then have the ability to make games in the more alien provinces. This would be to possiblities with the second being the most risky. Also note that doing a game in blackmarsh would make the argonians seem less alien. A culture is only alien untill you experience it. Calling the argonians an alien culture before you see their culture is equaly if not more racist then the Aldmeri Dominion.
The next elder scrolls should be in The mysterious land of Akavir. And what happened to Nerevarine when he left for Akavir anyways? Maybe a story about him?
They should do a cyrodill-summerset isle and have a war going on between them but at the begining of the game choose where you wanna start and as you progress you go to the other province and have a huge battle
I agree with your position about Elsweyr being culturally and geographically different. However it is a relatively small province, I say why not combine Elsweyr with Valenwood and work with that not love but not hate tension you spoke of. Maybe war breaks out between the two? Full out or maybe drug? Either way it is the easy way out “faction pick a side” story line but using that would give Bethesda the chance to put more focus and energy into expanding the cultures and the dominian. Either way it might be interesting and guerella warfare might be a new swing at things. Maybe make it possible to set up your own traps? I don’t know I am just spit balling now. It be neat to see if they could make it work.
I would really like to see a development on the conflict between the Aldmeri dominion and the Empire, because the tension between them seemed to be at breaking point in Skyrim, with the hero attacking elves all over the place. Perhaps it could be Eleswyr or a combination of unseen regions , which were being fought over by the two In a big new war. The character would be the decisive factor in how the war would change, perhaps even a tri-choice between empire, Dominion and Independence. However, the dominion would need fleshing out, so it didn’t seem a choice between good and evil sort of thing. Then it could even involve travelling to the Capital cities of either faction and fighting it out for your cause. This could even lead to another game, where the losing side stages a comeback. I don’t know whether you guys think this is right, just throwing ideas out there.
this guy is full of crap. who would want the next game to take place in a crappy desert. my opinion, the next game will take place in 2 maybe 3 provinces and the dominion war will be settled during the game.
Uhhh Braden, Ulsweyr is only half desert, and the other half is jungle. Also, before TESV all we knew about Skyrim was that the area was a frozen wasteland.
Before I played Skyrim I thought TESVI would be mainland Morrowind and Black Marsh, based on the ‘civil war’ between the Dunmer and Argonians… but then i found out that only Argonians can survive in Black Marsh due to disease and a high percentage of underwater areas… So I think that counts that out.
However, now that I have finished Skyrim, I think it will definitely have something to do with the Thalmor and the Aldmeri Dominion as there is so much left hanging on the cliff.
Oh and Dylan, it will probably be quite racially monotonous if it were to be based in the Summerset Isles, but Morrowind wasnt exactly a multicultural game was it? I think it will be exciting learning more about the self righteous High Elves lore.
Im thinking TESVI: Summerset Isles (With perhaps Valenwood and Elsweyr)
I know this is going to sound crazy for many of the reasons you said in this article but I wouldn’t be surprised if Bethesda went back to The Great War and allowed us to play through that part of the story line. Only problem I see is that wouldn’t want you to change the future but that still makes it do able. Bethesda could recycle A LOT from Skyrim while they figure out how to do Elsweyr. You have to admit it’d be fun to play through?
You say crazy, but what if they just lose it and some how they decide to have something that effects all of tamriel and in the end there are new provinces!!!! But that’s just kinda crazy talk on my part
Along with that skyrim is the first of the elder scrolls I’ve played and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the Denver and snow elves(falmer) were mentioned I the previou games?
The Dunmer are in every Elder Scrolls game, and their homeland and culture are the focus of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The snow elves aren’t really mentioned much in the other games.
Solstheim expansion for Morrowind has a little to do with snow elves in some parts.
I think Elsweyr is too small, unless you add Valenwood which is just bigger than Skyrim and still smaller than Hammerfell and they have a fresh base. Definitely not with the summerset.
The only problem is they’re going to have to reintroduce a second great war later. IMO
The White-Gold Concordat was forced, with the Thalmor being depicted as the jackasses that they are there’s no way that at least part of the Empire won’t attack again (with or without Titus Mede II) I’m almost certain there’s going to rebllion within Aldmeri provinces. That would mean going back to Cyrodil for sure, but that’s probably TES VII
They’ll probably do what they did with Skyrim, setting in one province and emphasize a particular race. I’m thinking WoodElves in Valenwood (maybe a little Civil war maybe not) or Argonians in Blackmarsh
I also want a better look at the disappearance of the Dunmer and the downfall of the Snowelves, Skyrim must have foreshadowed something like this with all the Dwarven ruins and Falmer. Especially during the Thieves Guild quests.
I think for the sake of profit they will release a second skyrim, the fact is skyrim IS there most succesful game to date, the audience today does not want to think they just want to break things, morrowind was there crown jewl when it comes to the story aspect maybe not the best combat but respectable, oblivion had too much “oh no another oblivion gate” also closing the gates seemed like a chore, but sticking to that trend they brought in dragons as a kind of replacement for the gates in skyrim, oblivions story also was good not as complex and detailed but it was good, then theres skyrim, I have played since morrowind so that being my benchmark i honestly have to say although better than oblivion it lacked the complexity it should’ve had and in that respect I think morrowind is a lot better, I hope with the coming intallments of TES they go back to the complexity they where famous for, also I believe its time for the Dwemer to return they cant have a series go much further without them coming back they could have a war begin between the aldmeri and imperials cease because they return and want there lands back maybe? just saying there is so much they could do and honestly re-visiting areas already done is not a bad thing its a way to expand something with such a good foundation.
I think that idea is horrible because no one would ever buy it and I disagree about what you think of oblivion

I dunno, I think Summerset could be possible. Maybe not for VI, but for VII. The elves need to be fleshed out sooner or later- I think a possible plot point would be the Thalmor being overthrown- Bethesda has already hinted at elven rebels, and keeping them makes the plot too predictable. Besides you can’t just portray an entire playable race as “the bad guys”. I felt like a total dick copying my standard High Elf mage from Oblivion and Morrowind. It also makes it really hard to choose a side as far as the Skyrim civil war goes. One side tried to cut off your head, the other hates your entire race. Hmmm. No, though, Summerset Isle won’t be the next one- two civil war stories in a row would be kinda ridiculous, but in the relatively near future I think.
I think VI should go back to the very start when the elves history was beginning like the aldmer or the war between the dwemer and chimer and the betraying of the falmer
also more about maormer would be cool
Why not all of tamriel way back in time with the dwemer and the snow elves before they turned into falmer but depending on what race u chose wud depend where u went and u Cud even play as dwemer or snow elves
I think it would take place in Hammerfell. In The elder scrolls V: Skyrim, there is a rebellion against the thalmor being planned there. It is also big.
Elsweyr/Valenwood!
Okay… Elsweyr yes it does sound good for Elder Scrolls VI. However the main storyline being another this vs this is going to drive me crazy. I personally liked the Oblivion storyline the best as it was more diverse in the fact that it wasn’t really a vs game. It was like invasion meets stop the enemy. So what could possibly be the main storyline in this game? And why not head back in time to Black Marsh during the time of the war? Who says we have to keep going forward in time. There are so many possibilities now that they’ve skipped 200 years, they could do anything with this.
I think they should mix Elsweyr with the Black Marsh. And maybe even Valenwood. Have the Topal Sea separating them, and incorporate sea battles and manning of ships? I think that would be sick. Maybe have the Kashiit and Argonians on the brink of war, and the main role has to unite them to battle some supernatural force?
Just ideas, but I think that would be awesome. I mean you would have three vastly different landscapes. The marsh of the Black Marsh, the deserts of Elsweyr, and the Jungles of Valenwood. Deep Jungles would be great for exploring, If they had deserts and sand dunes and such, just think about the creatures that could pop out of the sand and eat you? And the vast, impossibly hard to navigate Black Marshes would be awesome. Have a few human cities built on stilts, underwater Argonian cities, where you require a water breathing skill or something.
Here, take this into consideration. Make a new, “long-since-dead” race and their mysterious homeland appear (preferably they should be humans). Then make the blades have an army out of nowhere and destroy the aldmeri dominion down to nothing. While the empire has a secret plot to help the blades defeat the dominion and then betray the blades in the end. Then make the blades team-up with this new race and overthrow the empire for good. The regions you should use should be skyrim, cyrodill, and the new mysterious place of the supposedly dead race.
You guys should make the new race to be huge warriors with an automatic 50% resistance to physical damage. Giants! Make them giants!
Make Martin Septim come back while you are at will you?
Ok, honestly, forget Elswyer. It’s a retarded place that only a couple of people in the world would want to play. Personally I think that idea sucks. They need to make it so you can explore 2-3 new regions, make the dwemer (or a new race) and the blades come back, and they also need to make the campaign alot longer. Everytime I play the campaign in an elder scrolls game, I beat it in like an hour. That’s way to short! Make the character have more racial choices, more paths to choose, and make him/her actually have a voice.
Either 2-3 new regions or 2-3 ‘recycled’ regions
But give the player 2 options on the voice. Give them the option to record your own voice if they have a headset or the option to pick a prefixed voice from like 5 different options both on male or female
C’mon guys. I want a reply back so I know what you guys think of that.
I appreciate your flurry of ideas! I can’t tell if you’re joking about the giants, though – that would be pretty imbalanced! They’d beat everybody!
I really like the idea of having the option to record your own voice for sprinting/grunts/whatever.
Still pulling for Elsweyr though 🙂
Well don’t make giants totally invincible or just don’t make them at all. It was just an idea. But I honestly think the rest of my layout could work. Considering that there’s really nowhere else to go….just make a new region and race.
I really just don’t like the idea of a huge desert and a bunch of cats roaming around on it.
i would like to see trading to be bigger part of the game. trading guild would be nice. I also prefer elsweyr, because deserts havent been in the modern elder scrolls (morrowind, oblivion, skyrim). sight to see i think. I would like to also see like one bigger city in the game
It would be great if you could become an officer in an army. In Skyrim you can become a War Hero of the Empire or Stormcloaks, but you never lead anyone in battle. Being able to control troop movements and do more than just go where you’re told and stab people could add a whole new element to the game. Maybe if you had to assault a castle, you could decide to take out supply depots or poison the drinking water instead of just charging everyone.
Also, adding a hunger mechanic might be interesting. Food is currently fairly useless, as it provides a tiny fraction of the health of a potion, and fills up inventory space.
Those ideas are probably the best ideas I have heard for a new elder scrolls.especially about the food because it is worthless but making it neccesary to eat would make it alot more valuable.
Yeah, but then wouldn’t the food just become another annoying, but neccesary part of the game, like how your armor took damage in oblivion? I think that if food was neccesary it would just be annoying as Hell.
I think there’s a good chance that they’ll do either Valenwood or Elswyer cuz they really haven’t done a jungle or desert environment yet. I also predicted they’d do skyrim(but then again who didn’t) so whose to say elswyer or mabey valenwood or mabey both aren’t going to be the elder scrolls VI cuz they’re certainly not going to repeat anything or jump straight into the summerset isles considering the cliff hanger of the thalmor in skyrim and blackmarsh is pretty much impossible to do unless your only choice of race is argonian or if u want to explore 1/4 of it then go home like the imperial soldiers. My vote is on elswyer with the possible valenwood(mabey as a DLC)
I believe that blackmarsh would be a very good region because ever since oblivion I have always wanted to go to black marsh
I agree that a game based in Elsweyr would be a good step forward. In Skyrim (TESV) the non-human and non-elven characters were given a backseat in the storyline (due to the game’s location) so Mer races should be the next focus.
I disagree with MacPherson’s idea of having control of troops – TES is just not that type of game (Dynasty Tactics, anyone?)
At the time-setting of TESV, the Altmeri Dominion have a larger influence on the dynamics of a lot of Tamriel than is first evident until you inverstigate Lore. A game involving the regions closer to Summerset Isle is a good idea, especially since northern Tamriel has been the focus thus far.
My suggestion – set TESVI in Elsweyr and base it around the same time as TESV. The main plotline should be about the accepting of or rebelling against Altmeri influence over the Khajiit. This would allow for other regions and future games to pick up the plot thread, and give the ‘beastfolk’ a chance at being culturally depicted.
It doesn’t really matter to me where Elder Scrolls VI will take place. I’d love to see the Arena back, and some better missions with the guilds. As you are all Elder Scrolls fans, you have to agree with me that the guild quests in Oblivion (and rankings) were so much better than in Skyrim. Especially the Dark Brotherhood. The cities in Skyrim were not very much hostile, the only city I loved to wander around in was Solitude. Windhelm, Winterhold and Riften were to unfriendly..
I would really like to see the next game in Akivar. The mystery the lies in the foreign continent would really bring a different approach to the series. If not Akivar, I would like to see the TES:VI in one of the Southern Provinces that is not connected to Cyrodill, Skyrim, or Morrowind. I also would like it to have a diverse story line rather than two factions pitted in a civil war. Also, I would like to find out what caused the Dwemer to disappear. I think that Bethesda was hinting or foreshadowing that we may soon find out when we ventured into all of the ruins in Skyrim. It seems as though they are trying to give us hints as to what did happen to them. Personally I believe that the Dwarves have dug deeper into the ground to escape the world of humans. I hope that the Dwarves are not extinct because I would much like to see them in a future game.
I really enjoyed the ideas in some of the previous comments about adding new guilds (trading, daedra/aedra worshippers, etc.), and making the guild quests and radiant system more complex (actions and words affect other aspects of the game much more than in the other ones) and the concept of being able to do more with one’s character (commanding troops, for example) even if it isnt the current style of the elder scrolls games.
As for location, geographic variation doesn’t seem to be a major contender in where the next will take place. Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim all have only mild geographic and climate variation. Although personally I would love the next installment to occur in a desert region.
The storyline could be almost anything. I’ve played since Morrowind and the evolution of Tamriel has been almost as non-straightforward as real history. It might be a good idea for Bethesda to not go back in time, but continue with the Aldmeri/Imperial plot, but include the Akaviri and/or Dwemer, or potentially something with Atmora and more humans coming with ill tidings of great evil forces (lol). Since we missed out on participating in the Great War between Oblivion and Skyrim, we could potentially have an even greater one occur with an Akaviri invasion force and/or Dwemer returning to place order on the land. It seems that route would appeal to people who love the story and lore of the elder scrolls and to those who just want to play a good game.
To add to my previous comment. Expanding on the Akaviri, what if the Akaviri already invaded, settled some of the land (perhaps weakening the Aldmeri Dominion and settling in Elsweyr and chopping down some of the forest of Valenwood, creating greater geographic variation) and could be a new, playable human race? They would introduce new armor styles, an entirely new culture, new architecture, their own lore, etc. but all on the continent we already know and love so it wouldn’t get too exotic for new and old fans.
I really like your idea. I really want to see more with the Akavira because it is so mysterious. I would also like to maybe see a new race.
I think that they should to a game that’s set in the past, way in the past, around Ysgramor’s time, back when there were no provinces, and it was just land. That would allow them to be more flexible when it comes to setting. As far as plot goes, I think they should do something that goes more into the Elder Scrolls and their capabilities, because it seems to me that the Elder Scrolls have been neglected a bit too much.
You could always go back to the Dwemer. The mystery of why they dissappeared, what the Snow Elves did, how the interacted. Or just take a left turn, something unexpected. The Elder Scrolls VI: Rebellion. get rid of those dang High Elves once and for all. They piss me off with their sense of superiority(so i killed them all in Skyrim.) I don’t care where it is, as long as it really happens. Best games ever. Worth the money, and they always have fun DLC. Yay Dark Elves
Im looking forward to the next game. I like free-roaming/simulation games. In skyrim I love the geographic and character detail, the customization, and variety of things to do, the places, races, and everything in general and I hope they continue that, if not take it to the next level and add more, as someone above was considering. As long as they don’t do anything way too drastic and they put it in an awesome setting and keep the elements they used in skyrim but with more, then I will be blown away and I will be happy. These games are absolutely astounding, to the point where they have the ability to control you, and it would bra shame for Bethesda to not raise the bar, especially with the rapid advance of technology. I really like the ideas of mixing provinces. I’m sure Bethesda has at least a little something in mind, because either they made skyrim the way it was for a reason or didn’t plan on making a TES IV at all.
Maybe humans finally unite, and after conflict with aldmeri dominion drive the elves back to summerset isles. You r a captive of humans/elves and the elf camp gets destroyed by humans… Set free because there is no one there to capture you or when the humans attack they are distracted and you can escape with someone. Later on you choose what side you are on. Maybe thalmor are slightly humbled by the attack and are less haughty. Alternitavely, you can have loads of fun going around saying “talos worship is strictly forbidden” and execute people because they don’t have the speech option to say I’m not a talos worshipper….grrrrrr…
Reforge the aldmeri dominion or destroy it. maybe there could be ruins similar to ayleid ruins which contain weapons of great power which you can use to destroy humans or elves depending on which side you take. Of corse, nobody would join a high elven aldmeri dominion, so maybe all Mer could unite, including orcs and you could bring back dwemer. Elves use magic to retrieve the dwemer from that other plane of oblivion that Azura banished them into. Come on guys, read everything about dwemer history on skyrim wiki. It’s clear what happened. They used heart of lorkhan, backfired, killed azuras faithful champion in a battle, azura gets angry, and banishes them to another plane of oblivion.
I agree, I would really like to see the dwarves. I’ve always wondered how Bethesda would design them, whether it be like a trademark dwarf or their own take on it.
Somebody please reply
Please
No?
The summerset isles haven’t been developed much. It would be interesting, plus there would be ruined cities.
Expansion pack:Pyandonae
Yay! maormer!
Maybe the united Mer could worship Daedra instead of aedra. I’m thinking meridia, nocturnal or azura. Dwemer would worship azura out of fear. Meridia is the daedric prince of life, so the new meri dominion could symbolise new life. Maybe too cheesy
Azura is the daedric prince of dusk and dawn. Dawn symbolises the beginning of a new culture, and dusk being the end of the aldmeri dominion. I know you guys will say no way to Daedra worship by altmer, but perhaps they felt abandoned by the aedra. Or perhaps the new meri dominion could not have high elves.
SOMEBODY PLEASE REPLY
Haha, I can’t reply to these things at 3 in the morning!
It’s great to see so many ideas about where the next installment will go. Just goes to show how many possibilities Bethesda has.
has anyone thought about makeing a new continent sorry my spelling sucks
I also think a new continent and a new race that has maybe been hiding and is planning on destroying one type of race and u play as them or fight them off I think that wud be pretty bad ass and if that doesn’t go through than where ever the kajjitvare from cuz who wudnt want to do drug deals and all that stuff besides the kajjit added the coolest. But we also NEED TO HAVE THE DWEMER BECAUSE THEYRE TECHNOLOGY IS AWESOME nd who wudnt want to plY as a dwarf. Please reply, elder scrolls rule.
Elsweyr the kajjit are from elsweyr sorry kl
Guys, those who hates Steam (including me) most likely have a bad intrenet connection due to their locations. Never used it for more than a few minutes ? I have to wait for 3 days to play Shogun 2, and I’ve bought the boxed copy! The weird thing is, I have no problem in downloading anything else. After some months, winning Shogun 2, I want to play it again, yesterday, I wait for almost half a day for an update, but never mind, I’ve played it, and now, when i want to play it again, it says I have to wait until tomorrow plus 13 hours before I can play it for another update? I mean, what happened from the last time I’ve played (yesterday) until now , why can’t it update in the background during that time? (I’ve been online since). This is the same with HL2 too.If it got options without Steam, then I will buy it. I’m from a pirate infested country, it cost less than a dollar to buy the pirated games (and it works). I appreciate what the Elder Scroll team has done, and I want to support them, so I won’t buy the pirated one, but how can I promote the works if I’ve bought the game which cost me a fortune compare to what you guys (pirated) are buying, and I can play it once I finished downloaded it in errrr 4 days , but don’t worry, it will take only a day or two for each updates . They will be impressed with the box though (they always do). So please, people hated it for a reason. And Dean, are you saying that Skyrim boxed copy will not used Steam as a platform? I can install it directly to my PC without any downloading from Steam is it?
Elsweyr the kajjit are from elsweyr sorry lol
If Bethesda makes a game with a new setting then Elsweyr is definetly the place, they could remake oblivion, morrowind, and other previous games with better graphics. Maybe they could even make a completely new game set in sovngarde. Just think about it, all anyone’s ever been to is the hall of Valor, why not make some reason for bandits and draugr ect. Getting in. They have a whole new world to work with. Might not be a great idea but I was just thinking about it, one set during the great war would be awesome though.
It’s heaven. How could evil guys get there?
Dwemer are terrible people. They enslaved some people who sought their aid, and turned them into killing machines. Plus they were really arrogant. Who wld want to play as them?
Plus, dwemer would probably have the technology to make guns. Then it turns into fallout.
SO TRUE.
I think that the next Elder scrolls should be set during the colinisation of tamriel (any region)or during the Falmers enslavement by the dwemer.
Need like some huge battle where u comand ur own army and lead them to destroy anything in ur path throught the game like build it up as u go with gold
Here wait! I’ve got it! Most of you are going to totally disagree with this. But Bethesda should put us back in time so you know how you wound up in jail in Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Then the story line should (sorry I skipped ahead) put us in skyrim as it is now, then send us to the imperial jail at the beginning of oblivion so you can warn everybody about the uprising and dragons and stuff. Then take us through the Great War. And end up back in skyrim with the WHOLE story altered so the high elves were destroyed in the process of taking over. (use both cyrodill and skyrim). If anyone out there doesn’t understand what I’m trying to say, then please do not hesitate to ask
thats a good idea actualy ihope they do that
Oh and Martin Septim lived. And you could become a king
In order to have proof, they should make the story line take place with 3 different characters. Each one should have their own journal that you can write/type yourself. And show it to the main kings in the game. One character should stop the oblivion crisis and warn about the great war. The second character should earn his ranks fighting in the great war and become king. The third should be in skyrim (still 200 years after oblivion) and should demolish the Aldmeri Dominion as a blade. Soo the story will actually rake a while than 2 hours like the previous games. You can see all the legends told of in skyrim leading up to that time and fight alongside or against them(example: Ulfric during the great war storyline). Make the fighting more realistic and you should be able to unlock special combat abilities andcombine them to make it even more fun. I’m telling you, this would be awesome! Name it The Elder Scrolls: Legacy.
When I said demolish the aldmeri dominion as a blade… I mean make the blades still be an army like back in the akaviri age.
Blades helmets are annoying.
Awesome how many ideas there are for a follow up. I just kind make up my mind >.< So much potential, but in the end I say Valenwood or Elsewhere. I bet Bethesda has the creativity to make a nice setting for this area, it really doesnt matter it has a high density of trees, there must be enough open spaces;) And in elsewhere, the variety is a big plus, but still, didnt we already had enough of that ;)?
this is what i think: Skyrim DLC: Hammerfell, High Rock, maybe Summurset Isles. I think that Hammerfell and High Rock should be like Bloodmoon in Morrowind: its an addon to the map instead of teleporting or something like for the Shivering Isles. Elder Scrolls VI:Valenwood and Elsweyr; theyre about the same size of Skyrim, maybe DLC for that would be Summurset or Black Marsh, but Cyrodiil is in the way.
Bethesda needs a new game after skyrim I mean I already put like hundredes of hours in it and im level 81 so think of one fast in like a year or two but not like oblivion to skyrim 6 years long time to wait just keep the good work going and cant wait to see the new game
I personally think that using Elswyr is not a bad idea for TESVI, but I think that some Akaviri meddling is necessary. I think that a game based in Black Marsh, maybe with some of southern Morrowind, would be a good place for the Tsaesci (the serpent people from Akavir) or the Ka Po’Tun (the tiger-dragon people) to invade, which would provide a good springboard for a story. As for potential redundancy in the environment, while the majority would be marshland, the coasts wouldn’t necessarily follow that pattern, the northwest would be more Cyrodil-like, and the northeast would be similar to the Morrowind volcanic wasteland style. A game in this setting would also potentially provide extensive looks at two cultures. Obviously, the argonians, but also a look at how the dunmer have been faring, and how their society and Great House structure has changed since the Red Mountain erupted and other calamities wrecked their land.
Yeah thats good
I agree I want more Akaviri, and the different clans/cults/factions that reside there would be intersting. I also want Bethesda to have a new geographical climate, TES are good because they keep changing but the Fallout series are getting boring, I hope Bethesda don’t just copy and paste a setting like that.
Fallout is actually getting more varied – the New Vegas DLC was actually pretty shocking when you got into Utah.
I really like this idea but make it so you can play as the races of akavir so you can be a rouge taesaci agent or somthing and bring back the alyeids because they sound awsome
There needs to be big ass wars with thousands of ppl and u play as like a slave for the army and u escape but it needs to be intense and focus on stealth BTW this is for the first mission
Valenwood sounds interesting, having a forest/Jungle area, set the cites just randomly through out the jungle and but a dark brotherhood just out there too. plus bring back the fighters guild and mages guild of course the thieves guild will still be alive.
I always thought a game where Yokuda resurfaced and the various peoples of Tamriel fought over it would be pretty cool.
the Elder Scrolls – Dwarven Kingdom …Or The Elder Scrolls – Whole (Covering every area – though I know that it will take about 4-5 years for bethesda but IT WILL BE EPIC )
I agree w/ jack on Elder Scrolls VI taking place in Elswyr and Valenwood. It would be an interesting mix up of landscape and culture regarding the difference in race and social manerisms.
TBH I’d like to see a continuation of the story of the Aldmeri Dominion. The end of the civil war campaign makes it clear that it isn’t over, and the end of the main storyline tells us that the Dragonborn’s story isn’t over, but i guess that’s for DLC to decide. Looking at Berthesda as a whole, they should probably look at getting a new engine, people aren’t happy at this one. Surely it would be a good idea to instead of having good snow have good sand, which they can use in Fallout too? So Elswyr would be easier for Bethesda to pull off, if they made it either more detailed or had more places.
honestly i dont care where VI takes place, the one i would really like to see are mixed races, i.e. nord/orc mix or something of the sort. that would be awsome i think.
That’s a really good point – the fiction says most of these races can interbreed (at least humans and elves) so it’s really weird that you can’t be, and never see, mixed race characters.
in oblivion, the grey prince was supossed to orc and imperial so i dont see any reason they cant
i also think that if your character were to become a vampire you should be able to import them to the new ES… its just just an idea but it could work i think.
Bethesda can go anywhere from here, honestly. With the Stormcloak rebellion (successful or nor) and the death of the Emperor Titus II, the Orcs could see a chance to truly make a nation of their own in the northeast mtns of Hammerfell. And with Hammerfell fighting the Dominion by itself, the whole area could be a powderkeg of violence. Valenwood/Elswyr idea would also be good, due to the high elves way of ruling. But I think the biggest idea that Bethesda is sitting on is the return of the Dwemer. Mainland Morrowind is largely unexplored by the games so far. And since it was the homeland of the Dwemer, it would only be logical to have them return there, right in the middle of the ongoing Argonian occupation. Morrowind could also have a variety of enviornments. Bordering Skyrim, Cyrodiil and Black Marsh, along with the alien terrain of their own, mainland Morrowind and a return of the Dwarves is a gold mine of potential
I have the best ideas:
1) Immediately or years after the death of Alduin in Skyrim, the Dwemer have returned. Their disappearance was apparently pretty mysterious from what I have seen in Skyrim and the Falmer have kept their place underground. According the stories, the Dwarves have been the most technologically advanced of all the races, this fact will explain how they made their great escape from Tamriel… into the SKY!! Their technology helped them live above of Tamriel in large, flying Dwarven ground and they have returned after recovery to take revenge on those who’ve wronged them! They will come back stronger than ever!!!
2) Many people understand that the war in Skyrim is pointless to some extent and that the real enemy is the Thalmor. In the next game, the people of Tamriel, the Empire, AND the remaining Stormcloaks, will work together to defeat the AD. The Thalmor have said many times that their main goal is to prove that their race is superior and everyone that worked with the AD will realize it which will then create another great war. Of course, to prevent confusion, both of the leaders (Ulfric and General T) will be dead from either assassinations or old age.
3) All of the games have a hero or a special person as the main character, so to qualify as a main character in the next TES game, you have to be just as good or even better than the Dragonborn, you have must an equally incredible title One title could be ‘The Last Snow Elf’ – you will play through the game as the last snow elf and you’ve been kept under extreme secrecy and protection under the Thalmor. The main character escapes imprisonment and faces challenges such as spies, snow elf-racists, and Thalmor extremists. In an attempt to save your race and represent your people, you gather the Falmer and lead them into glory. Some of the races or factions in Tamriel will understand how badly the Snow Elves were treated and help, while other groups will try to eliminate the last remaining snow elf (or the entire Falmer).
3) The College of Winterhold is being protected under an incredibly powerful barrier from extreme, discriminating warriors. Many of the mages in Tamriel are being murdered and many famous mages have gone into hiding, where they can practice their arts safely. Magic has become banned and above the ground, people are fighting to keep magic and it’s traditions alive while other people want to eliminate it from history forever. In an attempt to keep up with the fast-growing weaponry and fighting tactics, new spells have emerged and a new band of warriors has formed: Blue Ravens, wizards who put aside their differences (such as the debate on necromancy and magical boundaries) to fight for what is right. As a result of the strong discrimination going on in Tamriel, the capturing and murdering of Elves have begun (because of their natural, magical gifts). Many of the humans are ignorant and put their hate on all Elves when it should actually be on the Thalmor, and have used the dangers of Magic and the Thalmor’s disrespect as an excuse to eliminate Magic and all who practice(d) it.
4) A large and deep hole (yes, that IS what she said….) has formed, seperating Tamriel and all who live on it!!!! For weeks, many have wondered why it formed and are recovering from the massive earthquake and tsunami. The people of Skyrim are weak because of the disasters, and now they have a reason to be even weaker: DEMONS have appeared from hell, a new race: demons, ascend from the hole with natural gifts involving flames. To go with the new race, a new weapon has appeared: the pitch fork. Demons are naturally strong and have the advantage over the people of Tamriel because of the disasters that have occured (including the return of Dragons and the war between people). Fortunately, to combat the aliens from deeeeep underground, the races of Tamriel have put aside their differences to work together. Many groups have been formed that took on the skill of fighting using pitch forks and many have learned the new, burning magic from Demons to use it against Demons. Also, under the ocean of Tamriel, a new race has awakened as well! They are the Aquarians! Their only purpose for waking is to combat the return of Demons. The Aquarians have actually been in Tamriel longer than the others and went on a long period of rest after defeating the Demons to restore balance of the elements on Tamriel. They have returned only to keep their promise, which is to defend the natural elements of Skyrim from wild fires, extinction, and piles of ashes. They return with their natural gifts in water and ice, and all over the cities of Tamriel, people scatter from the battle of the elements, while strong warriors fight for what they believe in. Some of the warriors/wizards fight for the Demons because they are truly evil, some fight for the Aquarians because they understand what needs to be done in order to protect Tamriel in the long run, and some will even fight both new races, thinking that they are protecting their home land when they are actually speeding the time it takes for their lives to end!!!
Reasons this idea does not fit in my mind:
1. The hole opening idea and splitting the world is too new of a plotline with Cataclysm being what it is.
2. Aquarians already exist but are named Maormer, Demons won’t work as the name and idea are too generic.
3. Pitchforks would be a horrible weapon, they have no real world background, they are farming implements
4. This would get a lot of flak from religious folk for the unleashing of hell
5. Good/evil plotlines are very boring, in skyrim you’d have to think of the consequences of joining the legion or the stormcloaks, and the invaders idea has been a bit overworked in both oblivion and skyrim
I think Akavir would be a good choice, it would allow the chance for not only a new race to be added but the integration of another culture since it is eastern asian. So far its been more a British and European feel, I would love to how they pull this off.
i think elswyr would be good it could be a war between the aldmeri (soz if i spelt it wrong) and the empire in that zone and you can chose whos side and its a conquerer kind of thing were i dont know your captured by the aldmeri and the empire saves you and it a giant war over elswyr were no matter wat race u r trying to protect elswyr and it can be a bit of valeenwood aswell (just an idea) and it can be focused more on stealth then the other games how it was mostly combat (kind of what morgan said)
@Lambada
1: The human anti-magic idea has been used before (Dragonage), though it would make sense, since the oblivion crisis is blamed on mages.
2: there are demons 😛 they are the daedra. i dont know how much more demon you need. They have invaded before (ESIV).
3. Snow elf idea is interesting, but we do know that most if not all of the Falmer ran to the Dwemer for protection and got scammed into slavery. It isnt unreasonable that a small colony survived somewhere, but ES lets you choose your race, even in biggoted areas like Morrowind and Skyrim. I wouldnt want to be forced into a being a snow elf when there is alot more.
4. the Dwemer disappeared at once when they tried to use the heart of a god to become gods themselves (ESIII). No sky castles. And since you have demigod dragons coming back, i wouldnt be surprised to have the Dwemer empire zip back to tamriel. Of course, what did they do in the few thousand years between thier loss at red mtn and their return would have to be explained. But definitely a huge area that lies untapped fro Bethesda.
I really do wanna see Hammerfell in detail of skyrim. The whole middle east/north africa feel would be wicked, and has only been done in assassins creed. Niether the empire or AD have control there, so it would be a good place to set the next one, maybe a 20-30 years after skyrim. The AD would need some more fleshing out, i think, before they pit them toe to toe against the empire. The Blades, being the CIA of the empire, always show up in the games, and having a high elf equivalent to this would be a good challenge for writers. Huge gap i noticed while playing skyrim was that people noted that the elves simply made the moons disappear! The High elves could really come into play in the next game if they were made into a group like the empire; you hate them so easily.
Whoever said the sixth installment had to take place in only one country? Valenwood and Elsweyr are crunched together, and Elsweyr could be a short boatride from Black Marsh. Skyrim has a massive time gap to transition itself from its predecessor, so there’s a chance this will happen again. Perhaps Elsweyr and Valenwood are at war for whatever reason, and both are fighting to be allied with the neutral countries of Black Marsh and the Summerset Isles? When you look at the map, the combination of the four is about the same size as Cyrodiil or Morrowind, more or less. This would also allow players to experience the different subcultures, politics, and histories of four differing places.
But who knows? Maybe the Dwemer will be brought back and the rest of Tamriel will discover why they disappeared: Their inventions allowed them to create a new dimension they were then entrapped in, or they have been cursed by the gods to reincarnate the dragons and live within their bodies. The possibilities are endless.
Black Marsh is possible, but some explanation as to why everyone can and wants to go to a previously plague ridden swamp land. But hey, if Bethesda can say that every dragon is the spawn of the time god Akatosh, their creativity could shine here. I do think, unless the AD is broken up, the high elves would naturally want to keep their possesion of valenwood from fighting with the more or less allied elswyr. Yet again, Bethesda could still make things work. Did read today that a Elder Scrolls online game, set during the 2nd Era, is going to be announced sometime soon. Could hint at the next installment, hopefully it isnt a bust, this series has too much potential
I would love to see a side game attached to the next game where you could play as a bandit or a falmer etc. You would have quests like for the falmer take over the world above. Also I know the elder scrolls aren’t this type of game but leading armies into battle would be amazing.
But the falmer r blind
I think they should do a game for each remaining province but then do one giant meta-game that takes place all over Tamriel in every province. This would take about 6 years of course. Also, I think they could think of reasons for other races to be in places like Summerset Isle. Like maybe the Empire finally realizes how the Dominion is controlling it and plottng to overthrow it so they lead an attack on it. It could be just like Skyrim’s civil war concept but it would be Empire vs. Thalmor. But they would have to do this last in the series because the Dominion was an important part of Skyrim so they should keep it as long as possible before they end it. But they would also need a big threat to the world like the oblivion crisis or the dragons returning.
Actually, I would love to see Black Marsh in the next game. Ofcourse, It lacks reason why the complete attention of one game would be zoomed on that region, but still… I think the producers of the Elder Scrolls games could use their fantasy to the maximum, especially with the lost civilisations(such as the ayleid kingdoms in oblivion or the dwemer in Skyrim)
PS: I’m not english, so if this contains any stupidity, please leave me be
Well, knowing what I know of Skyrim and Oblivion (haven’t played Morrowind), it’s time we look at some trends:
1. From what i’ve heard, in each elder scrolls game you start out as a prisoner/captive of some sort, and the main storyline brings you out of prison, and the PC has a title (Nerevarine, Dragonborn)
2. Each game region gives off it’s own flavor, Cyrodiil was classic fantasy setting, and Skyrim was a more Nordic take on the tradition, I’m definitely thinking either Hammerfell or Elsweyr could give off an arabic vibe, with Hammerfell (redguards seem like suave pirates) could put up a Northern Africa feel along the coast, and Elsweyr (Khajiit giving off desert poltical intrigue) would be more middle eastern based
3. Mountains, Forests, and Cold desert have already been explored with a side of swamp/jungle from Shivering Isles, I can’t see how a desert part could feature much verticality (my favorite aspect in games) without the extensive use of ruins that would be similar to Valtheim Towers.
4. One of the main things I noticed in Skyrim was the fall of practically all of the established institutions, with the Dark Brotherhood down to its last sanctuary, The empire being taken down by the Aldmeri, Fighters guild disbanded, Mages becoming distrusted and blamed for the Oblivion Crisis, Thieves guild is down on its luck. Their replacements; Companions, College of Winterhold, Aldmeri Dominion, are much less recognizable names, and this appears to be setting up for a big change in the factions soon.
5. The setting in Skyrim seems as if they are coming out of the dark ages, with the magic and stealth aspects of society losing much relative importance and mainly being focused on might, although this could be a Nord thing, setting the next game in Elsweyr and on political intrigue could bring the spotlight to stealth and magic
6. Both Oblivion and Skyrim featured ruins of a lost civilization (Ayleid for Oblivion, Dwemer in Skyrim) although the Dwemer takes much more precedence in Skyrim, this could allude to the ruins in Black Marsh of the Kothringi race, which has dissapeared on a ship to the West during a plague late in the second era
6. A fantasy desert setting COMBINED with a jungle setting is highly unusual in a fantasy rpg, which would provide loads of creative freedom for Bethesda to work with
Looking at these I concur with the OP that the most likely region for TESVI is Elsweyr, although think second place belongs to Hammerfell, followed by Black March in third. If they set the next game in Black Marsh, that then provides a springboard off of Tamriel, to the possibly resurfaced Yokuda. This is supported by the fact that the elder scrolls timeline is very roughly following our own, we’re at maybe the fall of the Roman empire, and maybe after a couple of games we’ll see expansion on new continents, and not long after that, to prevent modernization some sort of technological catastrophe
Another option would be the 4 islands of Cathnoquey, Esroniet, Roscrea, and Yneslea between Tamriel and Akavir. These were the islands conquered by Uriel Septim V on his quest to conquer Akavir, and could springboard us into Akavir.
However, I believe that Bethesda will exhaust their options on Tamriel before moving to other continents, letting background lore from future games give them more of a framework to work with.
Also between the races of Khajiit, Argonian, Bosmer, and Altmer, Khajiit have the most lore which is more evidence of showcasing Elsweyr in the next installment
This first part is gonna sound dork-ish but make Orukhai. Ya know? From Lord of the Rings? Ok. If Bethesda were tO not do that, then here’s what I think. Continue the Skyrim Campaign and make it clash into cyrodill as well. Bethesda should make the players create their own army, their own armor, their own, weapons and their own race. (each player gets one race to make). Make the leader of the Aldmeri Dominion, Ulfric Stormcloack, the next Imperial Emporer (I killed the last one in the DB quests), and you (as leader of your army) gather again in High Hrothgar. Give the player choices for their armor, weapons and how big your army can/should be. For example, Warrior Armor: black chestplate with spikes on shoulders, helmet, wrists, and shin part of boots. Rogue/Archer Armor: (again for example) black hood (with or without facemask), cloak/cape, light armor on all body (head, chest, legs, arms, wrists, feet). Mage Armor: hooded black light robes. Make it to where you can mix and match armor on all of those body parts I mentioned earlier. (Weapons) both one and two handed spear, one and two handed swords, one and two handed crossbows, one and two handed staffs, short blades and crossbows that come out of the top of your wrists. Make it so we can duel wield, example, one handed spear and shield, or one handed sword and one handed crossbow, or two one handed crossbows. (As I said b4, make the player have the choice of creating their own race with special powers) If high enough level, allow the player to do front, back & side flips by double jumping, allow players to create their own spells, arrows, sword, etc. I PROMISE that if Bethesda does this, that it would be the best selling game of the year for 2 years in a row (if that’s even possible)
Fuck you all, we go back to Cyrodiil!
But seriously, there needs to be a more immediate follow-up to Oblivion. Remember when you hear the citizens talking about rumors that provinces are seceding from the Empire? That would be cool.
Adding capes and trench coats would be even better! ;P
DLC mods that have cloaks are out there
Going back to an idea I saw from someone else… What if the dwemer disappeared underground? They could take any of the provinces, but add a deep underground element to it. The dwemer could be attempting to return to the surface, however since they have been cursed, you must wage a war against the gods or an evil monarch who was aware of them beforehand, so that the dwemer may return. There would be artifacts to uncover, scholars to ask questions of, several environments to explore, a new race, and new underground creatures. Create the dwarven culture, just completely cut off from all others.
I think both Elsweyr and black marsh, basically the reason described here why black march is not a real candidate will be no matter how long we wait, might as well include it in elesweyr.
Also, could be the summerset isles, i think bethesda is not done with the war, a expansion with the war final points is still a viable option in my eyes, could be in summerset to finish the war + something else (dwemer return?) Making the story more depended of the race you play could be a very interesting way to make you play the game a few times over and over.
An ‘end game’ to the Great War a few decades after Skyrim could be an interesting situation. Taking some inspiration from the Kingdom of Orr in Guild Wars lore, it could be a massive magical self-destruction, orchestrated by the Thalmor (an ‘if we can’t have Tamriel no one can’ kind of deal) and the player having to try and stop them (or at least that could be a major plot point). But keeping to the ‘immortal being trying to destroy the world deal’ for a main story. I feel as though Bethesda knows the ‘Daedra are evil and powerful’ deal is spent, but they definitely could expand upon the only slightly explored Aedra/Ehlnofey. Sure, they created Akatosh incarnate to fight Mehrunes Dagon. Perhaps they could incorporate the negative effects of the Aldmeri banning the worship of Talos? Talos incarnate threatening to destroy Nirn for it’s blasphemy.
It would be a long shot, as it would be the first time a legitimate ‘God’ (and no, Dagoth Ur, Mehrunes Dagon and Alduin were not ‘Gods’, just immortals) threatened the world and could set up the plot for another ‘temporal jump’ a few hundreds years in the seventh game. Representing a world shattered by the hand of Talos.
Just some ideas that also could assist for creativity in the long run.
As far as a return of the Dwemer goes, it would not occur in the Summerset Isles. It would definitely have to happen in Hammerfall (Volenfell, as the Dwemer called it), Morrowind (Dwemerith/Resdayn) or Skyrim (which is unlikely due to the lack of actual ruins there and the fact that they last game happened there). I would love the see the return of a ‘God-Chief Tonal Architect’ Kagrenac returning form some unknown realm with his people coming equipped with nearly 3000 years of arcane-technological marvels and threatening the entirety of Tamriel (remember, in every game the Dwemer have been referenced, even though they disappeared in 1E 700, they are still vastly superior in every single way to every known civilization to have ever existed since on Nirn.).
Everyone is talking about Akavir (which, in my opinion, would be a fantastic setting if they focused on the Ka Po Tun or Tsaesci regions) and Elsweyr. Some people are also ardently supporting the Summerset Isles. As a compromise what they could do is incorporate the Aldmeri Domimion (now formally an independent entity as of Skyrim) in a war with Pyandonea (island populated by ‘Voodoo’ elves with ‘serpent/water’ magic to the south east of Summerset Isles). Historically the Altmer/Bosmer and Maormer (elves populating Pyandonea) waged a war against one another. Perhaps incorporate the tropical region into an Empire vs. Aldmeri Dominion vs. Pyandonea setting?
Also, in regards to the ‘Temporal Jump’ the war between the Altmer/Bosmer and Maormer happened as early as 3E 110 (two hundred years before Oblivion and only 400 years before Skyrim) leaving plenty of time for the immortal wizard king of the Maormer, Orgnum, to rebuild his nation and lead an attack against the now fractured and greatly weakened Tamriel. Maybe even an incorporate a ‘coalition’ between Pyandonea and Thras (another ‘island nation’ of slug-like necromancers) Two ‘evil’ species leading an attack against their now-weakened historical foes the Altmer. Could provide interesting settings and stories.
I posted before I saw this from you. You have a lot of good points, I think that could be a good story, much better than the story of stupid dragons which I found unbearably boring
How about pyandonnea.
Pyandonnea is a province-sized continent to the south of summerset, which is comprised of a lots of islands covered in jungles and ruins made of coral. The islands are connected by flooded forests which are inhabited by sea snakes and a race of sea elves who use a naval force to attempt invasions on the summerset isles.
However, pyandonnea is a bit to small to host a game with any scope, so it could be done
alongside summerset isles, in a game that charts the altmers conflict with the maormer, and perhaps even expands on the psyjic order and the eye of magnus or something.
Or, though this is ridiculous, features something about aldmeris or the origin of the elves.
I dunno though.
And another thing, I dont think it would be two hard just to do elsweyr AT THE SAME time as valenwood, since even those two together is smaller than skyrim is, and it would provide a nicely juxtaposed setting to provide some intrigue.
Summerset Isle is where it will be in some way. However there is no conflict there, so I expect ( like people have previously stated), a combination probably including valenwood and elsewhere.(sorry for spelling it like that). However I do think a big battle is needed to capture some emotion. For example all out war between humans and elves. And not only high elves and nords. But all elves against all humans( and of course the beasts races will have to pick). But it could be like your last hope as humans and I think you could really make all irbthen humans feel connected and make a strong emotional last stand story.
Or another idea is to do a similar thing. Except makes the humans and elves put aside their differences. At the beginning of the game they will be fighting but then the akavir could invade and the elves and men could all come together. Yep. Those are my ideas
I think you could make a choice out of elsweyr. Because we haven’t had anything with jungle or dessert And i totaly agree with the aldmerri diminion being assholes. I myself am a great woodelf fan and would love to see valenwood become the province for the elder scrolls 6 but i will see. And don’t forget that elsweyr and valenwood could also bring very new and big features to us.
no doubt. An interesting feature for valenwood would be the giant tree cities. with a valenwood/elswyr game, overgrowth forests, jungle and deserts would be a radical departure from the more or less standard fantasy of ES IV and the viking mythology ES V. For the Khajiit themselves, Bethesda has a huge task. In-game, its mentioned that the khajiit have multiple subspecies. Only about a dozen can speak and understand speech, and Bethesda could reasonably squish the number down to about 5 distinctly different types of NPC khajiit seen. If and when Elswyr is done, i want it done right. There’s alot of mythology and culture for the khajiit, and done well, it would be mind-blowing.
(Note: if you havent played ES III, you must. Perfect example of how detailed ES can be.)
Summerset and black marsh seem too stable right now really add much of anything to the series. The border regions between Man and Mer are definitely the next spot to go. What I think really pulls Hammerfell above Valenwood/Elswyr, other than being pitted between Empire and Dominion, is that it is a meeting point for nearly all the races of Tamriel. As for the Argonians, at least is warm there, unlike skyrim. Dunmer, idk, i really want to see them come back from the brink of destruction. Wishful thinking…
I would like to see something come out of the orc clans in Hammerfell. Orcs have to be the most overlooked race in ES, and a big part for them in the series is needed.
Continue skyrim but play as the dragonborns son, and now something happened in sovanguard and the dragons r back but now all over tamriel, and bring back the dwemer cuz maybe it turns out that they were hidden in a magical preservation place and now they are back and maybe they reawoke the dragons and then the dwemer r the new bad ass threat, and I think they shud still keep the prisoner beginning Õh and maybe some newer factions please leave a replie
I also like the idea of Elsweyr. However, my biggest doubt over Elsweyr. Both Oblivion and Skyrim are much easier to say and market because its English (or in Skyrim’s place – it resembles English). I’ll never forget my younger sister, who has never touched a RPG in her life, was like “So have you ever heard of this Skyrim? I heard it’s Cooool”. I can see the game having less of an impact than Oblivion and Skyrim torward mediocre/casual/newbish fans. I mean, while Cryrodil is cool, it sounds odd to non-hardcore fans and less marketable.
And Betheseda wants to sell games. I think it would be interesting if they decided to go the Daggerfall route and use a geographic name, a city name, or another aspect of Elsweyr and Khajit. I think going that route will appeal to both hardcore and casual fans.
As for Black Marsh or Vallenwood, I think both would be interesting games. Vallenwood has the massive moving city trees. Plus, Black Marsh has those mystical sentient trees and monkey people. Black Marsh could also explore the histories behind the human and mer settlements, the history if the Vulpine Khajit race, the pirates and bandits, and the Imperisl prisons that in the swamps.
Picture this: Your in 1st person view, walking down the street of your hometown village which is surrounded by forest where everybody is working peacefully when suddenly a big explosion happens. You are stunned but barely conscious and lay on the ground while enemies (Thalmor army maybe?) destroy the town around you. The screen then fades black but you awake to find yourself in the middle of the wrecked village. A fellow survivor OR an army patrol (Khajjit or Bosmer) helps you up and says “who are you?” then you pick your race and all that.
That’s just me being original and creative from other beginning’s of ES games. I think it should be a Combo-type game where Elyswer and Valenwood are duking it out and you can travel to both places via foot or by boat. I think that that since much of both regions are coastal this could really be awesome, like owning a ship (horses), boarding and/or attacking other ships and being able to customize your ship, kind of like a house.
Anyway, you should have the ability to choose a side to fight on like skyrim for the Valenwood/Elyswer war and rise to positions like Infantryman, captain, officer and general.
For the Khajjit province you could have all the normal guilds except have the thieves guild much more influential and have new things to do, like smuggle moon sugar, Go to deals where you get a job (spying could be a new thing)from non-members of the thieves guild (mad citizens, rich lords or even get busted by an undercover cop).
The Bosmer could have more of a tournament style where you show up, enter in the games. The wood elves are more of an archer society so why not tournaments on shooting? Accuracy games, distance games and all kinds of stuff like that would be very interesting to play.
I’m done now and I’m sorry if these were boring or stupid ideas to you but I just think that would be an excellent game.
That’s an awesome idea
That sounds really good!
I’d definetly buy that.
I laughed when I read ” who are you?”. I had a picture of Hadvar in my mind
Saaame!!! LOL
http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/ It is official we have the next Elder Scrolls game.
If you did Valenwood, you could have the thieves guild which Niruin in the Riften Theives Guild left. That would be interesting playing stealthily in the forests. They could do sections of war against the aldmeri dominion and then finally come down to the Summerset Isles for the last Elder Scrolls game in Tamriel. Then I guess you do Akavir or you do the place with the Sload or come up with some new continent that no one’s ever heard of and set the game there. However that’s 20 years away if they keep making games at the rate and incline at which they are at now. I personally think Cyrodiil and Skyrim were the best places to set an Elder Scrolls game. I’ll hate it when the series ends.
I would personally like to see Elder Scrolls VI: Tamriel or maybe Elder Scrolls VI: Nirn it would be great to go to all the locations and have a massive Great War II storyline. I just find it an awesome way to finish the war with the Aldmeri Dominion and open up ground for a new storyline in the Elder Scrolls series.
i think elswyr is the best idea because khajits are the coolest looking guys because before in skyrim and oblivion it was mainley imperials and nords they don’t look cool at all
I have several theories, I’ll only speak of two though.
First: The Dwemer return and cause both the Empire and Dominion to be extremely cautious. The dwarves need only the slightest push to wage war on the world. They’ve lost so much time and are really pissed.
Second: The Afterlife. A mixture of Nine Divine heavens, Daedric Planes, and maybe even the limbo place the Dwemer might have being such a blasphemous culture. The size of the planes could be started from scratch and although some might say that’s lazy they’re a direct reflection of the worship we’ve witnessed in all the games so it’d be frikken interesting to see the other side of things and how the faiths work for the gods. The player could be a balance to make sure one heaven of plane doesn’t get and advantage upon another.
Second: The game takes place
I will be extremely upset if they make a game about the dwemer. I have just never been interested in them and am tired of everybody always talkig about ridiculous theories with them. I have had enough of their extremely dumb looking ruins in skyrim. Take me anywhere warm. With some beaches and some palm trees and clear oceans. Basically anywhere where my dovahkiin won’t want to kill himself and jump off mountains due to the dreary colors, depressing weather, and the overall ugliness of the cities and the people who inhabit them
Well since Bethesda has opted to make an MMO for PC and possibly console, there is only a small amount of hope that there will actually be another single player RPG from them anytime soon. I hate that they are going the way of Blizzard and jumping on the MMO bandwagon. It could be argued to do a join Valenwood/Elswyer map as TES VI, but that’s only if Bethesda doesn’t turn into whiny little money whores over their new MMO.
The MMO is actually being made by a different studio; Bethesda is going to keep doing single-player stuff.
in honest opinion im sick of this 1000 to 1 scale crap. id love to see an elder scrolls game like dagger fall and perhaps a remake of dagger fall in 1-1 scale. come one bethesda we can handle it. but can you? Are you too afraid to give players a sense of geographical reality when roaming through a fantasy world?
At first I didn’t think much of Elyswer being a feasible province to focus on, but then I remembered speaking with the Kajit merchant near Whiterun and something really resonated when he replied, “There are cities so ancient that the sands have swallowed them whole.” I may be missing part of the lore of what occurred during ancient or the Merethic period in that region, but there is potential in just that statement alone.
Read the article, thought you made a fair point with what you said about the other provinces and that Elsweyr is a good place to set the next elder scrolls game but I would like to see a return to Cyrodil.I preferred Oblivion to Skyrim for the fact that I felt that the quests were more interesting and the people in it and the voice actors were very good.I am being a bit bias because the imperials are my favourite race.I found that playing Oblivion the is alot of variety in the game not just on dominant race. Yes there is alot of imperials in the game but there will be its Cyrodil but you also will find there is alot of other races as well. The cities and towns in Oblivion were very well set out like the imperial city has different districts in it and other cities like skingrad, anvil and cheydinhal are very complex and different and all have different things to offer.I also really enjoyed all the guild quest lines my favourite being the thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood.
I would really like to see a Return to Cyrodil, tell me what you think!
I agree with you! I preferred oblivion and found the game to offer a lot more diversity.I liked the imperial city, it felt like home, where as in skyrim whiterun was home, and let’s face it, that town was a dump compared to the imperial city.
I would have much preferred cyrodil to skyrim, however for a new game I would like to see elswheyr or summerset isles or valenwood, just to change it up. But venturing back to cyrodil and the imperial city would be a great expansion for any elder scrolls game
Good Point!
just throwing this out there still have it set in tamreil but have it more in the future or even more in the past where tamreil is being invaded byy the creatures of the other continentes and i dont mea atmora and stuff i mean like Akavir which has invaded tamreil in the past it has 4 whole new races to play about with and will make it so you can unite the races of tamreil if you want to so you could form alliances between your favouite races you could also play as one of the Akavir people for a wider expirence. i want the elder scrolls VI to be similar to skyrim and it will still have dragonnnnssss this way as one of the races on Akavir are the tiger dragons of Ka’Po’Tung so everyone will be happy …. discuss
This is exactly what I was thinking. Except instead of all of the continent at once just Tang Mo. I like the idea of monkey people like in planet of the apes. And also snow demons, serpent men, and tiger dragons. You could even have it as Nerevarine’s expedition here near the end of the third era.
http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Akavir_%28Continent%29 this is a site with all the Akavir info and how it is actually tied in with the history of tamreil.
I’ve been dying to go to Summerset Isle pretty much since I started playing TES games. Not only is the land gorgeous and the people interesting (although asshole-y), but the culture and lore would be amazing. Since it’s the birthplace of civilization in Tamriel, it’s ancient as hell, and all magical and all that. What I think would work well is TES VI: The Aldmeri Dominion. That’s Valenwood and Summerset Isle, and it’s got a shit load of potential. From Oblivion on, the games kind of set up for the games to come; playing Oblivion again after going through Skyrim has made me realize all of the references to Skyrim, the Th’um, dragons, etc. They set up for this conflict with the Aldmer in Oblivion too (“I hear they’ve set up a boycott of Imperial goods in the land of the Altmer” “The Altmer have powerful wizards, this could be a dangerous situation.”) Also, The Aldmeri Dominion is a big problem for the Empire, and I really don’t see them just resolving the problem with another big time jump (the Thalmor are ancient anyway, and have only grown and organized over centuries, so they’d probably survive anything the empire could throw at them, seeing as the empire’s on it’s last breath). I don’t know how they’d go about doing it, since the Aldmeri Dominion is air tight and powerful as hell, and I doubt a lone hero could break that up. Valenwood isn’t a willing part of the Aldmeri Dominion – they were forced into that old pack with the Altmer by the Thalmor, and are angry and resentful of them for it (Once again, new game potential).
Also, in terms of the story and events of the next game, don’t forget the Elder Scrolls themselves. They have a hand in what’s going on in every game, and although we don’t get to see much of them (Skyrim being the first game where we get more than a sentence here or there), they always affect the game, although usually indirectly. Just like the book/song in Skyrim “The Book of the Dragonborn”, where all of the events of the past 5 games are mentioned and tied into the events of Skyrim.
When misrule takes its place at the eight corners of the world
When the Brass Tower walks and Time is reshaped
(Numidium and The Warp in the West)
When the thrice-blessed fail and the Red Tower trembles (Fall of tribunal, Red Mountain’s eruption)
When the Dragonborn Ruler loses his throne, and the White Tower falls (last dragon born emperor dies and the empire falls apart)
When the Snow Tower lies sundered, kingless, bleeding (Skyrim’s leader killed, land in turmoil)
The World-Eater wakes, and the Wheel turns upon the Last Dragonborn. (Obviously, Alduin and the whole plot of Skyrim.)
SO, basically anything could take place in the next game, so long as the Elder Scrolls explain it away. If you believe the lore and religion, the people of Nirn are considered by the Eight to be their children, and so maybe they get pissed about all the fighting and chaos or something? Some sort of dooms day game where you must fix the problem to appease the gods? Not this next game of course, but maybe someday ~
i would like for elder scrolls 6 to take place in every province of tamrial about 100 years after skyrim just to see what hapend to all the guilds because my character was the laeder of all of them
http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/
elder scrolls online.
I really hope they do more console games though
Why not just both Valenwood AND Elsweyr? I read somewhere that we should not expect a new elder scroll game until at least 2014, after the release of the “next-gen” consoles.
I’m not a technical expert but judging on things I’ve heard the tech is taking an advanced leap in the next few years. But it could just be pure bullshit.
Having TES:VI in Valenwood and Elsweyr would solve the problems about monocultural and geographical issues to (I think).
So if the tech will be advanced enough in TES:VI I think it would be interesting having those to locations in the same game.
But this was just a sudden idea I had. Could be impossible and flawed.
I personally believe Bethesda should create some unexplored regions for elder scrolls 6. Like a whole new continent. I would really like to see them bring”Morrowind back itself. Morrowind was an amazing game with lots of detail and story plot. And the expansion packs were just awesome. Tribunal and Bloodmoon were vivid in depth and imagination. They should just remake a tribute to morrowind with the same combat styles as skyrim, since it’s own were awful. But bring back everything that was included, but with a new combat system and graphics. Remember fighting dagoth gares and getting scared whenever you saw an unknown enemy? It was amazing!!
I think that they should still do elsywer/Valenwood because the geographical potential is enormous. Skyrim was called a frozen wasteland but it had a lot of variety, like swamp near morthal, plains near whiterun(personal favorite), dark coniferous forests near Falkreath, beautiful deciduous woods near riften(2nd best) and other cool changes. So when Elsywer is proclaimed desert thats probably not true for at least 1/3 of it. Same thing with Valenwood.
Judging by the fact Khajiit have mainly stuck in the background throughout the Elder Scrols series tells me that we won’t see TES VI: Elsweyr. Khajiits are just lame stereotypes that you can’t get invested in. Plus the arid location of Elsweyr just screams boring.
I would be open to Valenwood and Elsweyr though. There would be an interesting clash between the two locations and cultures, especially if Valenwood is still a part of the Aldmeri Dominion.
Personally I would enjoy a return to High Rock as the combination of Orcs and Bretons as well as the mountain ranges might be fun. I found the Breton Forsworn uprising to be one of the most thought-provoking parts of Skyrim.
After the events of Skyrim, the Dwemer reappear, appalled by The Dominion and their appropriation of Elven lands. For years, the Dwemer Confederation has dwelt beneath oft-destroyed Orsinium, and now the Dwemer, with the Orcs are looking for a way to influence the Dominion and the Empire.
Legends tell of one who walks with “the machine within”, the flywheel of prophecy, who will restore order or bring chaos most when Tamriel requires him.
The player begins in Elsweyr, imprisoned by reluctant khajit, for crimes unknown. They must travel across Elsweyr, Valenwood and even brave the Altmer-ridden Summerset Isle to bring the dwemer back into the Elven continuum, and to safeguard or destroy the orcs once and for all.
Also, drug running with mad cat-people, guerilla strikes on imperial/dominion/dwemer forces, stealing things hand over fist.
As someone who’s followed the stealthy mage model in all Elder Scrolls games, playing in a society dominated by thievery and intrigue could be awesome. The Elder Scrolls: Elsweyr is the way forward.
How bout a fast foward like 50 years and you start in the imperial city in the heat of the 2nd great war. Then you pull a tiber septim taking back the empire, with all the akavir peps invading a lost nedeic people invading, dwemer come out of hiding/space and you battle the elves, all over skyrim
Great idea! But instead of the dwemer, make Martin Septim come back with and army of Blades, Akatosh and Talos. Make an army of Dremora comeback along with Mehrunes Dagon, Molag Bal, and Mankar Camora fight with the Aldmeri Dominion. Make the nords, imperials, blades, M. Septim, Akatosh and Talos join forces against The Aldmeri Dominion, An army of dremora, mehrunes, molag, and mankar. Again, this is 50 years after skyrim. Any comments?
i also think that elsweyr is the best canidate, however if they do choose elsweyr then what happens to the other places, as it has been said they are generaly too boring for placement in their own games, but if bethesda just ditches them i think there will be alot of unhappy fans. i think that they may try to “go big” and finnish off vlalenwood, elsweyr, and blackmash in one game, maybe finnish off summerset in a big dlc (or maybe get lazy and blow it up), and then move on to akavir where it is revealed the dwarfs dissapered to and established a huge empire, uniting all the other akaviri races, and break up the next few games throughout various countrys in the new empire
what if they set it in valenwood, elsweyr, and black marsh with a little part of cyrodiil to get to black marsh?
Since the Argonians have apparently annexed large swathes of Morrowind, the lizardfolk might be the focus of the next one – they’ve always been kept mysterious, so the writers will have a lot of freedom.
Since it will undoubtedly be on a next-generation console/pc/interactive brain-meld, then I suspect the next game may be a lot bigger. I bet there are a lot of people that are irritated that Daggerfall still had the biggest world.
Empire spanning, world-changing, multi-factional lunacy based around the Deliverance-style swamps of Black Marsh (where the bards all play banjos), Morrowind (where the Dunmer are becoming like totes sick of being oppressed by everybody in Tamriel, and now it’s the Frogmen from the swamps?) and an increasingly beleaguered cyrodil.
It would be nice to meet up with Vivec again, if nothing else – we used to be tight, he was my shiny golden bro for a while.
Look skyrim was an amazing game but from the years from oblivian was 5 or 6 years. What I am saying is that we are most likely going to be another 5 years until we see elder scrolls 6. Because of this Bethesda will have a long hard think about this game and discover that they have done all the areas of Tamerial that are large. Because this game most likely won’t come out for a wile and it will be set on the next generation Xbox play station ect: it is therefore going to be bigger than skyrim. The only way now to do that would be to add to areas together. I think that these two ares might be Valenwood Elsyr because they are next to each other together bigger than skyrim. I think also this game also will be set thousands of years before Oblivan when say there was snow in that area and the snow elves where there and how they got kicked out or something.
I think at the start when u make ur character u should be able to chose if u want to follow the nine or daedric lords it wud add much replay value also focus more on vampires and werewolves please reply I want your feedback
P.s. screw elder scrolls online
I agree the elder scrolls online is gong to suck a lot
Also where ever it is the guild quests need to be more like oblivion because they are more diverse than in skyrim like with the dark brotherhood I found it was much more sastisfying in oblivion and I liked how you had to fence items in order to progress the thieves guild quest line but I liked the companions better than the fighters guild mostly because they are werewolves not only helping people but also fight the silver clan guys please reply and give feedback on what i said and also on ideas of new guilds and what to do with previous guilds
Well why not do a game with Valenwood and Elsweyr but this time no war is loose solve our problems situation. How about they already had a war and both countries and destroyed city’s in ruins and the argonians came in and took over the kingdoms for their own gain and your goal is to reunite the left over city’s and take back Valenwood and Elsweyr. It would also be cool to see NPC’s able to steal from you i have seen thieves in skyrim in people’s house’s but they never pick pocket you? they dont steal from your house? sure it would suck but i would have a sense of no order no law inforcement. How about Crafting arrows to? biggest shit you cant do it in skyrim!. Mabey you can get acctual jobs to like work at a store as a delivery boy or something idk there could be alot of debate on features that could be added.
I personally have been playing TES games since oblivion and I think that any game would impress me no matter what they do next. I’d love to see what happened to cyrodill after the events of oblivion and skyrim. To me Oblivion is better then skyrim and if it had the same engine it would make me want to play it even more. I think that the side questlines in oblivion (dark brotherhood, thieves guild, fighters guild, mages guild) were the best thing I ever had the pleasure of completing and in skyrim I thought the college and the companions questlines were kind of dull. So in TES 6 should be set in black marsh. For me it’s all about the side quests rather then the main questlines. For the dark brotherhood we have the shadow scales who are almost one in the same with the dark brotherhood. In skyrim the dark brotherhood was at its weakest which kind of made the whole thing a little weird for me because in oblivion you had tons of recruits etc. at your side ,but it was still amazing none the less. The shadow scales feed into the dark brotherhood so I think that they could either be completely cut off from all of the rest of the dark brotherhood as it seems to me they were exterminated or you could start as a shadow scale and enter the dark brotherhood ranks. For the theives guild I think that it should involve drug rings maybe using the Hist sap from oblivion and how the argonians are smuggling it in and out for the black wood company who in turn could be this games form of fighters guild. or maybe now the fighters guild has gained some head speed since oblivion and is looking to destroy the black wood merc group. Finally for a mages guild there could be a splinter group of the destroyed mages guild trying to seek refuge and set back up in black marsh and could be headed by someone with vast connections within black marsh.
With so much lore surrounding black marsh it’s hard to believe that Bethesda could make a game that isn’t fun in black marsh. The side quest practically write themselves and for a main quest I’m sure that something with the argonians fight with the dunmer and the Hist would be easy to come up with.
who else thought that the rpg elements of skyrim was worse than oblivion?
I think Bethesda should do Valenwood and Summerset Isle. There could be a war between the wood elves and a new race. The new race could be pirateers or some sort of tropical creatures. One thing thats REALLY annoying is the loading time. I know its a big game and all but mabie they could somehow make it better on future consoles? Or it they could introduce Vikings and say they are cousins of the nords and some sort of war broke out? It could be a sequel to Skyrim. Another race idea would be some bird-related creatures that are really mmysterious and some storyline along them. Im suggesting a new race and a story on them like they did in Skyrim. I would also enjoy a game based on elves. If yout think about it, it doesnt really matter how big a map is as long as the games good. Mabie Iperials could be rapidly moving in the Wood Elves home land and they didnt like it but then the imperials wanted the land to themselves. I dunno. Thats a load of ideas what do you guys think?
It is appropriate time to make a few plans for the future and it’s time to be happy. I have read this post and if I could I desire to suggest you some attention-grabbing issues or advice. Maybe you could write subsequent articles referring to this article. I want to read more things approximately it!
Ooh Ooh!
TES 6:
The Southlands!
All Southern Regions in one game! Take a boat to Sommerset Isle!
What about Summerset Isles and Valenwood? Those are the main two provinces of the Aldmeri Dominion so Bethesda could expand upon some of the plot from Skyrim.
LOL you could go around being racist if you were a aldmeri dominionist. such fun.
I was totally arguing with my brother the other day about this! He’s for Valenwood, I’m totally for Elsweyr. But it never occurred to me to combine regions. Honestly, I think the Khajiit need to be fleshed out more. If you’ve met one Khajiit, you’ve met them all. Elsweyr would be great because of the differences in climate. To go from barren desert to tropical paradise would be insane! All kinds of new enemies hiding in trees, dropping out of the canopy, right on top of the unsuspecting hero?! Friggin awesome! I’m just sick of mountains and plains. I gotta have me some Elsweyr!
What I think they need to do is combine skyrim, hammerfell and ect. Like have all of them combined together and make a bigger map. So the player can have the feel of a big open world map bigger then skyrim and have more weapons and bows and have there own place to buy. Plus people are arguing where it should take place just combine them and everyone is happy. Put more side quest longer story line. In my opinion that maybe make an elder scroll 7 where black powder guns came in effect in history. But still have the same concept of the earlyer elder scrolls.
Ok….Why would they put Skyrim in another game? It was great. but I don’t wanna do it again after already playing and exploring over and over again……I wanna see some new shit. Like seriously guys, the half the fun of a new Elder Scrolls game is being taken someplace new and interesting. It has to have that element of the unknown. I don’t know that I’d like going back to any of the other places in a new game. If that’s what I wanted, I’d just pop in Oblivion or Morrowind and say “screw this new game.” I want to be able to see these places I’ve read about. And I want some bloody dlc that includes the return of the Dwemer. I mean, where the hell did those guys go? O.o it’s a mystery, and I am very intrigued by it.
Somebody essentially lend a hand to make seriously articles I would state. This is the very first time I frequented your website page and so far? I amazed with the research you made to create this actual put up extraordinary. Excellent task!
“Introducing the new Elder Scrolls game: The Imperial City!
Return to the capital city of Cyrodiil and it’s surrounding area for that Medieval England feel we know you miss!
Explore at least 7 dungeons created by a team of 30 designers! Become immersed in a diverse world of trees, hills, and many native creatures (including bears, wolfs, deer, foxes, and rabbits)!
Tired of spending many minutes getting to the item shown on your map? Is fast-traveling not fast enough for you? With the new “Skip-to-End” feature, you can just skip to the end of the quest and watch the dramatically scripted dialog scene!
Of course, we don’t want you to get lost in an indoor area you can’t fast-travel out of, so we’ve stepped away completely from the open-world style. With The Imperial City, we’re going for a much more common, linear approach. This style helps us avoid complaints from PS3 users who had to reload a save that one time!
We’ve completely revamped the armor system, as well! Now you don’t have to worry about which boots or gloves to wear with your Steel Armor, because we’ve merged them into one, single piece!
While not nearly the most important part of a great game, the story is a needed piece. We’ve done away with the idea of ‘lore’ because, well, it’s boring! In The Imperial City, you are a good knight who must save Cyrodiil’s princess from an evil wizard named Richard! Choose whether you are to use fire magic, or a sword (we’ve got rid of the other weapons) to stop Richard and his pet DRAGONS!
DID WE MENTION THAT THERE ARE DRAGONS?!
Pre-order your copy of The Imperial City today!”
Maybe they could do 2 or even 3 provinces such as Elsweyr and Valenwood and maybe even the Summerset Isles. The three provinces combined would be just barely bigger than Cyrodiil or Skyrim. Also, doing this would solve the diversity problem, because all three locations have very diverse cultures and geographic settings than the other. The story line could maybe dive a little deeper into the ways of the Aldemiri Dominion, and maybe you could join them. Also maybe Elsweyr could be fighting against the Dominion. Maybe the elves could be taking the Kajiit as slaves? Or maybe there could be a group of elves within the Dominion who are trying to bring it down and assassinate its leader. This would be like one of the side quests though( like the Fighter’s Guild, Dark Brotherhood, e.t.c. in previous games). Also the Thieve’s Guild, Dark Brotherhood, a form of fighters guild, and a form of mage’s guild would appear with maybe the Blades, Imperial Legion, and Morag Tong appearing. Also, the main quest could revolve around you being a distant relative of the Septim dynasty, and it could focus on your journy to being crowned emperor of Tamriel and you unifying the whole continent for the first time since Oblivion in order to fight some ancient evil and its followers. Also Daedric quests would obviously come back, and maybe you could visit a few of their realms as well.
I think it would be cool if they made one in the time when the Ayleids where around, as then we could also have a new race with them, and fit the old (new?) ones in too. you could have the Dwemer, the Ayleids, the Nords, the Nede, then to fill in the new/old ones, you used an elderscroll and lost your memery when you did it, but was transported to this new time. It might be after or during the Slave Rebellion. could learn how they made all the artifacts, could change the terrain some, and have some fun with that stuff. I have no clue on main quest, but they’ll figure it out.
You forgot Pyandonea. I don’t think it could work as a game on it’s own, but it would make a great DLC on the off chance ES6 is set in the Summerset Isles.

Here’s an awesome idea:
The Elder Scrolls VI: Dominion, which takes place in Valenwood, Elsweyr, and the Summerset Isles. SO, it takes place 10 years after Skyrim, with a new Great War. After the deaths of Ulfric Stormcloak (at the hands of the imperials) and of Emperor Titus Mede II, the Aldmeri dominion invaded southern Cyrodiil and hammerfell, beginning to move northwards. At this time, Skyrim is in turmoil because of a ton of fighting, but a bastard son of Ulfric Stormcloak arises, Harald Ironheart, a young warrior. He unites Skyrim, andallies himself with the dying Empire, Hammerfell, and High Rock, as an alliance of Men. They begin to fight back, pushing into Valenwood heartlands, and that is when the game starts. You are a soldier of the Alliance, and the Dominion captured you in battle. When a soldier askes “Who are you?”, that’s when the options come up for race, gender, etc. The main questline would be lengthy and take you all over southern Tamriel, and it would deal with a massive, all-out war between the Alliance and the Dominion. Harald is the Alliance leader, while the Thalmor rule the Dominion from Alinor. If done right, this game could be their best, since they could still have dragons (dragons have spread across tamriel or something idk) and their traditional woodlands in summerset, but jungles, mtns and deserts in Valenwood and Elsweyr. And you might even meet other characters from skyrim, you know?
Valenwood/Elswyer or Blackmarsh/Mainland Morrowind would be good. Wherever they put it, they need to stop dumbing down the factions. In morrowind, not only were there the thieves guild, fighters guild, mages guild, but the morag tong, imperial army, imperial cult, great house hlaalu, great house redoran, greathouse telvanni, the blades, east empire company, tibunal temple cult, the twin lamps, also the vampire clans (aundae, berne, and quarra), not to mention the unjoinable clans that you would still interact with (comonna tong, talos cult, imperial knights, and the dark brotherhood). There were also the ashlander tribes, and the epic main story that took weeks to finish. In short, the reason Morrowind was so good (imo better than oblivion, or skyrim) was because the content, and not so much the complexity of the graphics. On the other hand, the fighting style, magic system, and archery systems were pretty lame. Finding a mixture between the complexity of content in morrowind, and upgrading the combat system in the next game (possibly head shots = death shots, knocking someone to the ground, being able to roll on the ground, and possibly a targeting system that works somewhat like auto-aim, that would auto-aim you to the general position of the target when the (whatever) button is pushed, and higher skill levels would decrease the size of the target box, increasing your accuracy) would make the next game epic.
Also, I wouldn’t expect the Aldmeri Dominion to play a big story line in the next game, assuming it will be set hundreds of years after Skyrim (seeing as Skyrim is 200 years after Oblivion, and Oblivion is 400 years after Morrowind).
They could explore with the Akavir, but honestly, there would be too much room to play around with, and they could end up ruining the legendary status that those empires have now.
Hammerfell
Let me explain…The empire abandoned hammerfell and left it for the elves but the redguards defeated the elves/kahjiit and became an independent nation if it does happen in TES 6 it will be during a war between the Thalmor and the empire and the redguards will have to make a decision whether to abandon the empire totally or help them defeat the empire during which we might get a glimpse of some Akavir races such as the Tiger-Dragons Tang-Mo or Snow demons
Now your probably thinking about why it wont be in hammerfell but honestly its the highest chance they cant do black marsh due to it being 99% argonian and the Thalmor provinces have like no Humanoids That and the 3 thalmor provinces are going to be highly explorable during TES:O maybe they just make a single Elder scrolls game simply titled The elder scrolls and just release $60 DLCS that are like full games which is what they will probably do with pokemon(yes i mentioned POKEMON in a TES topic….Sue me) so now that ive bored you to death if you managed to read this without passing out….heres 2 more paragraphs
They havent explored the redguard culture they have explored all races except redguard and argonian to an extent black marsh i have already said why + hammerfell is the 2nd biggest province giving them lots of room for new items and stuff + there is again DLC which could expand the story and give us Summerset which is honestly way to small to be a single game
And they could also do another skyrim game the culture/lore is huge and we could see the aftermath of the civil war which i think bethesda will choose to win even if its not in skyrim they have to give an official result or else its a massive plot hole considering it was a massive part of skyrim but hey you never know when TES is finished all continents and stuff we will see a WHOLE NIRN GAME i am 100% sure of this so many fans want it and we know we will EVENTUALLY get it even if its 2041 when we get it 😛
The only reason Argonia isn’t going to be the next location is because the detail is too advanced. With moving camps and giant marshes, Bethesda are not prepared for Argonia. People will still buy it if it’s set there…
I think black marsh is has more potential than you think.
On the borders and a bit more inland there are imperial made cities/forts from when the Empire tried to induct Black Marsh into the Empire, and those towns still exist, there are plenty of coast/dock city potentials, Imperials tried to make black marsh a place for prisons, and only the very interior of black marsh is the most inhospitable, the northern borders have Morrowind influence, and during Elder Scrolls V events, Argonians took over much of the southern part of mainland Morrowind, so Black Marsh is technically not entirely Marsh anymore. There were also other races living in Black Marsh in ages past. And there is also the HIst to consider, a the potentially oldest sentient beings on Tamriel.
The mediocre patches on Skyrim point to resources being put to use Elsweyr.
They have Windows 8 to contend with as well as trying to Eclipse Skyrim, you know one thing the game will be Elsweyr for all the good reasons stated on this site.
The Skyrim version was a new engine for them, it will be reused, but re-textured and rewritten, with differing themes, and the place to have the Elder Scrolls 6 in would be strictly a Geographical decision.
There are only 4 regions remaining all along the bottom of Tameriel, none on their own can support a game with the new engine, hence Elder Scrolls 6 is in a different place, not Elsweyr, but Else-where.
Tamriel is not the end of the ElderScrolls world, prepare to be impressed, and have enough cash to buy the new Xbox or PS3, or upgrade your motherboard, you will need it. A HD TV will be a good investment also.
It really doesn’t matter, but I always pictured being a pre Nord and coming from Atmora, making Sarthal, and helping Ysgrammor in liberating skyrim
They can do it by using the textures they already have is SR
Ok, so I developed a plot. It’s called The Elder Scrolls VI: Beginnings. It starts of with you waking up in a boat, and one of your fellow passengers asks how you are. You can reply “Good” or “bad”. For Good, he will say ok and leave, but if you say bad he will tell Ysgrammor. If you say good, Ysgrammor comes over anyway. He tells you he really doesn’t know you too well, and that’s when you do race, gender, etc etc. after you finish customizing yourself, the boat hits shore. That’s when the main quest starts. You go about, finding land, hunting, running errands, and building Sarthal, until the night of tears. You are able to escape, but when you see Ysgrammor running, you shout out but he keeps going. Stranded, you have to go around skyrim hunting and stuff to stay alive. You can also explore Morrowind, the most northern parts of Cyrodill, and Some of Hammerfell and High Rock. One day, Ysgrammor returns and tells you that he brought back the five hundred companions, and what you do is start infiltrating snow elf cities and killing Snow Elves. The end of the game takes place at where Whiterun will later stand. There’s a massive battle between the elves and companions. Ysgrammor notices he is losing, so he orders you to take 1/3 of the companions to flank the elves. You do and you win. Ysgrammor tells you it’s over.

Hammerfell would be a great change from skyrims tundras. The rich culture of the redguards is amazing, much more so than the nords.
I think that it would be EPIC if it was set in the early days of Tamriel, the 1st Era. There would be heaps of wars and all sorts od epic stuff.
Elsweyr is seperated in 4th era and is now anequina and pelletine because of a coup supported by the thalmor
Why don’t they introduce the other 2 continents!?
The second game is not fully introduce high rock and hammerfell. And it’s also out in 1996 so yeah it can still be in hammerfell that will make a great game.

I’ll state what I’ve been throwing around in my head since Oblivion was released. If they stick with the remaining provinces rather than repeating, than the small nature of these 4 remaining regions would all but guarantee that we’re going to have a combination of at least 2 of them. Eventually technology will be in a position where they can easily offer us the entirety of Tamriel for a Single-Player TES ( I am aware that TESO is doing it, but that’s relatively different from the single-player franchises)
Given the nature of the universe and it’s lore, I would say a combinations of Elsweyr and Black Marsh would be perfect. As we all bore witness to in Leyawiin, there is hostility between the Argonians and Khajiit. Even worse, as we see in Skyrim, there is much disdain toward the Argonians and Khajiit 200+ years later, I imagine little has changed between the two races and I would imagine war is highly likely between the two. These two territories, perhaps combined with an Imperial-led lower-region of Cyrodiil to bridge the two warring provinces.
Likewise, the combination of Valenwood and Summerset Isles would also be beneficial as the established plot regarding the White-Gold Concordat and the Thalmor in Skyrim is just begging to be continued. The combination of two regions would afford the game a larger array of Geographical variety (just as Black Marsh and Elsweyr would) but that would still leave the issue of the species variety giving their racist natures. With the Nords being at war with them, and perhaps encouraging the rest of the Empire to join in,, I can see the Empire taking up province in portions of Valenwood, though this would be a bit of a stretch.
Ultimately, I think Black Marsh/Elsweyr are a perfect match to go up against so long as the writers can handle the alien natures of the two beast races in such an extreme.
Hey DarkReign-
I like your idea – back when I wrote this a year and a half ago, it hadn’t really occurred to me that they could do multiple provinces, but I agree that it makes the most sense, and your picks are great. However, I’m going to have to challenge your claim that technology will allow them to “easily offer the entirety of Tamriel.” In fact, technology is working against that. As computer tech progresses, the amount of effort required to make a world of contemporary graphical fidelity increases. Bethesda has managed to keep pace (so far) but their teams must be bursting at the seams at this point. But that aside, it’s a matter of time. Every Elder Scrolls game since Morrowind has been hand-crafted, because randomly generated content simply isn’t nearly as good; the manpower required to lay every stone in Tamriel by hand would be astronomical. The only alternative is to automate it, and while we may design better level generators, only true artificial intelligence could generate proper content, which I don’t think we’re going to see any time soon!
Well, I think it’s possible to have 3 provinces in ESVI. Summerset, Valenwood, and Elsweyr which you like most. Both these 3 belong to the AD, and the sum of their size is just little bigger than Cyrodiil, which Bethesda can do.
Heard that Bethesda is planning a huge project, so it’s also possible to have all of Tamriel in ESVI. Forgot where I heard, but it seems that ESVI is the end of ES.
Damn, I’ve replied in a wrong way.
I think that a game set in Black Marsh would be cool, as the argonians are one of the least explored of the races, also, for the plot, they could have a rebellion against the aldmeri dominion’s presence in Black Marsh, inspired by the stormcloak rebellion in skyrim (I think it would be quite interesting to see how the developers deal with the result of the civil war in skyrim.)
They could do vanenwood and elswyer together, it is about the size of skyrim
me playing only skyrim and oblivion i hope hammerfell as that cultur would be a great place to learn of the lore and it would be cool to have to drink in the desert. plus hammerfell seems fun.
I do trust all of the ideas you’ve presented in your post. They’re very convincing and can certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are very short for beginners. May just you please lengthen them a bit from next time? Thanks for the post. ceakbkdcddbk

I’m calling it, based directly off the geography shown in the teaser. It. Is. In. Hammerfell. If you look at the teaser, there is only one town with a crater that size in the lore. As well as the seagulls, as well and the increasingly larger protrusions of land are reminiscent of the northern shore of Hammerfell. Feel free to leave a comment on your thought of my opinion, I’ll be happy to talk further.
